Ale, Lager Pils
The Originals in the mike's line-up, they have passed the test of time and for good reason.
Back in 1989 mike's Mild Ale hit the scene and was an instant winner with all the Taranaki locals, showing all that you didn't have to be resigned to the fizzy golden swill that is mainstream beer.
After a loooong time of just mike's Mild Ale then LongLine Lager or Mountain Lager as it was known back then, came about as the light, easy-drinking Euro Lager style beer that paired excellently with a hot summer day.
Followed up shortly with the crisp and citrus packed Pils-Nah, a better trilogy than Lord of the Rings, and you can finish it more quickly
The Bastards
After years of producing the Original 3 organically certified and with pricey, organic ingredients, we decided to introduce a range of non-organic "bastard sons of mike's." This is them in all their non-organic, non-PC glory.
While we still produced them naturally without pesticides, herbicides, homicides or any 'cides whatsoever, not being bound by the strict organic guidelines meant we could experiment with different ingredients and flavours.
Solid Seasonals
Craft Beer is all about what’s new and what’s exciting. At mike’s we try and keep up with the trends and in some cases, we have set the trends. We try and release seasonal beers often to keep the excitement levels up and these are the seasonal beers that have been so popular that they have almost become core-range but might just be the cream of the seasonal crop.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Starters and sever were really nice! However food was completely disappointing. Mushroom burger came with zucchini that was not specified on menu as well as having the Brie & Pesto missing and the capsicum coulis serves as a whole grilled capsicum with the seeds still inside. Ribs has cartilage all through making it difficult and unappealing to eat.
Unfortunately, not listening to the bad reviews from others and giving this place a go was a big regret.

Great food (even something for the vegans!) and wonderful staff. I feel comfortable and welcomed here… love this place.
Also, they support worthy community organisations.
10/10, a real Taranaki gem ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beer was great, nice decor. The DJ was terrible, playing really depressing music on a Saturday night. When we let Mike the owner know he gave us a free round of beer which was much appreciated! It seemed to be the consensus that DJ AL needs to go.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The food is incredible, definitely try the Wagyu Beef Brisket and the seafood chowder. Mike's honey sour beer was the best sour I have had. Wow, thank you. And the lovely service was just the icing on the cake! Thank you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Decent beer but average food, very slow despite not many people around and not very attentive servers (never came over to offer more drinks/water/dessert menu, see how things were).
Don't recommend this place - there are much better places nearby you can go for better food and service for the same or similar price (such as Shining Peak, Hour Glass, Social Kitchen, Fork n Knife)
