Mode Rentals - Maupuia

This was the first time for me to book with Mode rental. When the shuttle picked me up the shuttle was really smelley like sweat. Same experience, when I catch the same shuttle back to wellington airport. Their office was really dirty, lack of hygiene. The office was uninviting, I didn't feel spending another minute there. The car I booked was toyota corolla 1.8cc. When I was given the keys and went to the car the driver seat was had lots of ladies hair. Seems like it never had a clean, and no attention was given to it. I felt disgusted. The driver seat was filthy it self. When I told them she said I'll just vacuum it. I said no, this is what I didn't saw online and I won't gonna accept this car. She said I will look if any is available, if not this is the only one. Than I was given toyota camry (2.5cc) which I didn't wanted I bigger engine vehicle, coz it will consume too much petrol. If I have to book with Mode rental I will reconsider it 10 times before I book. Normally I book with apex cars and never had any problem with them.

Easy to use, great value, and the off-airport location isn't a problem. The base is very close, and the van arrived promptly to pick us up.

The only thing Mode Rentals is good at is taking your money. When it comes to answering questions or resolving issues, they are no good. The staff at Mode Rentals were difficult to communicate with, and either avoided, or were unable to answer our questions regarding a tyre we had concerns about. Their premises were also run down and dirty, which did not inspire much confidence from the outset. We were passed around between various staff members throughout the company, including staff at the Christchurch and Auckland branches, due to the fact that staff at the Queenstown branch were unable to answer our questions. After going around in circles for days, being passed between various admin staff and supervisors, we decided to go directly to the company CEO, Philip McIntyre. Mr McIntyre skirted around the issue and failed to answer many of our questions as to why his staff were unable to address our concerns on the tyre. Mr McIntyre advised us that because the tyre met the minimum safety requirements, he would not refund us for the car that we didn't use. You would think any company would aspire to sit well within the boundaries of safety requirements and decent customer service, however Mr McIntyre believes operating on the borderline of safety standards is an acceptable way to conduct a professional business. Furthermore, Mr McIntyre believed this to be a separate issue from the issue of poor customer service, and that this was not grounds for a refund (or even a partial refund). We tried to point out that we would likely have taken the car if his staff had provided adequate service and had been able to answer our questions about the tyre (although I am genuinely surprised that car had a WOF!), but he seemed unable to understand this logic. I note Mode Rentals' reply to my reviews on their Google Profiles attempts to emphasise the fact that this encounter was with the Queenstown Branch only. I have left reviews on all of their Google Profiles because, as mentioned, we dealt with employees throughout their company nationwide, including the CEO, Philip McIntyre, and so that they cannot avoid accountability. If you want to avoid an experience like ours, I recommend you go elsewhere. We found Go Rentals to be miles ahead in customer service standards, and they were happy to accommodate us last-minute.

The vehicle provided was as promised. A slightly older model but it was clean and in good condition and great for the price! Pick up/drop off was prompt and staff friendly. Will definitely use again.

Great, easy, hassle free rental company. The staff are great and the car we hired (Nissan Leaf) was a dream to drive. Was also the best price in our area including private rentals. Thanks heaps! :)

I hired a car long-term for 3 months and it was a great experience! The price was very affordable, and the car worked extremely smoothly - no issues. I got the car I ordered online. The staff are lovely, and answered all my questions in a long phone call prior to me hiring the car. I will definitely go back to Mode Rentals and recommend it highly!

Wellington Airport pick-up - at least third time using Mode. Very happy with rental hire. Efficient processing, good quality cars, friendly service with pick-up and drop-off at airport. Have already booked to hire again.

A great experience, right from pick up at the airport to collecting the car. All staff extremely friendly and nothing was a problem, Car was used all throughout the lower North Island, very clean, and no issues mechanically. Will definitely use again
