★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I called into the office at 105 this morning to ask a couple of questions about the Saturday Market and maybe, to give feedback. I wanted to know why there were so few cool vintage stalls when other markets have so many (using the Lyttelton Market as an example). I was informed by the woman in the office, very quickly, that our Saturday Market had enough "secondhand" stalls and she was really looking for more vegetables and produce. Thats great, i said, but currently vintage and other cool stuff like that would be great too. No, she said, (abruptly) we have enough second hand and vintage shops about Brighton already. New stuff is better. The decision is made. (It's clear she wants me to leave already, and her listening skills are negligible). But I said, it's a bad look when you come off Marine Parade and right up front are stalls full of cheap imported tat. That's a bad look, I said. That decision seems rather dumb. Those stall holders, some of them, have been supporting our market for 15 years, she said, through winters and summers, through the earthquakes, and I am not going to throw them out, she says (which at no time was I suggesting she should). I just thought we should add some cool stuff, not that I got to say that because it's clear she just wants me to go. How rude you are, she says ? go away! Fine, I said, thank you for not listening! Thank you for being so rude, she calls after me, as I am leaving the building.
I have lived in New Brighton for 3 years and this is the first time I have ever been in dispute with anyone in this place. I support the shops and markets here. The people are lovely. I am shocked and disgusted with the behaviour of this person. I am likely to take the matter further.

They do a great job running the new Brighton market, Santa parade and a local blanket bank, to name a few of the many things they are involved with. The monthly newsletter is really informative and you can tell they really believe in their community. They are a very valuable part of the new Brighton community :)
