★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a great idea to sponsor the blue penguins inhabitants by joining the viewing of them coming home at night and hearing from the staff about them. We saw 214 penguins came home that night, it was amazing to learn so much about them whilst enjoying watching them walking up to their home from the shore. A great experience for the little ones too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a magical evening watching 100+ little blue penguins waddling home. Worth spending the extra $ to get premium seats, as most of the penguins went past us about 1m away. We were all thrilled! It was the highlight of what was already a very good day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ All the staff were friendly and informative. In total that night we saw 110 penguins come back to shore. Very much worth the money and the wait (even though we didn’t have to wait long). Chloe who was speaking was very factual and Barbra was amazing look out for the penguins coming in! When we was leaving Helen on the front desk was lovely and kind to talk to. The whole experience exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend to anyone in the area!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I know it's excellent how they get money for the welfare of the penguins, but I just felt a bit underwhelmed. Got more of a kick seeing all the Shags on wharf. Disappointing because I adore penguins and paid the high price because I so looked forward to it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing experience. Sitting in the general seating gave us a really good view of the penguins walking up the slope. Due to additional nesting boxes being added behind the viewing stand some penguins walk through the stands (arm width away). Incredible. You may need to rug up warm even in summer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Incredible wildlife experience watching these adorable and fragile looking penguins arrive home to their burrows. The staff were great. I arrived a little early and they let me in to the stands and take photographs in the daylight before the presentation. They were really helpful and knowledgeable, tolerant too with all my questions. Brilliant place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wanted to let my son see the one they call the blue bird.. The blue penguins in Oamaru, cost $55 to watch from the premium entry. Show starts at 9pm I guess because thats when it gets dark
in the summer but the penguins starts to appear 20min past 9 until 30mins past 10.. They are so adorable and cute, wiggling and running to their colony. We’ve seen them up close, we were sitting at the front part of the premium viewing.
We’ve decided not to finish the show as it was getting so late, and taking picture of the penguins are not allowed, though in Blue Penguin in Dunedin’s one it is okay without flash..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visited in January and the viewing doesn’t start until 9pm. Tickets usually cost 40$ but they offer discounted prices at the moment (20% off). No photo/video taking, and you have to quietly observe the little blue penguins. We walked to this place from our hotel and you can see a lot of birds on the wooden wharf. So cool!
