Really loved stopping here after leaving Rotorua. The walking tracks are accessible and easy to manage. The view is stunning!

Soak up the katuna river and falls. There is a loop walkway from the base to the trout pool. There are a couple of falls along the track and caves. If you are lucky you will see rafters. It is a DOC park, so no dogs allowed. Allow 1 - 2 hours for the walk and sight seeing

Okere Falls Scenic Reserve is a 23.3Km drive from Rotorua. The Okere Falls walk is a very easy 3km round trip walk that will take you around an hour to complete. Walk along side the Kaituna River and view the famous Okere and Tutea falls and finish off walking through stunning New Zealand native bush before arriving at the Kaituna Trout Pool. There is also a Kiwi Guardian site nearby.

Pity we didn't have enough time to explore more but it was one of them nice quick stop and watch people water rafting down the fall.

Has a big parking area with toilets, tables and seating. Is a nice covered walkway with 4 different areas to check out, 1st being Okere falls lookout (says 1min is really 30seconds if that from toilets). 2nd is hinemoa's steps and Tutea's Cave from here the walk gets a little harder as you have to go down some steps where you'll see Tutea falls from platform, then you'll have to go down Hinemoa's steps to get to the bottom "Tutea's Cave" where you can go in and look around (make sure to take torch to see better/or use your phone light) then you'll have to go back the way you came, up the steps. Then you can carry on to see trout pool falls where people use the trees and swing to jump in for swim as the strong current carries them down river. Then once you get back to carpark there's a very easy walk down some steps in the corner, which leads you to a platform right up close to waters edge to see the raging water IG?_leon_04

A spectacular short walk to the caves and to the trout lake....great to see the kayakers coming down the falls too. Great history of the hydroelectric plant and caves where local iwi hid during war times.
