★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The historical sight wasn't that much but it's right by a beautiful lake that was filled with black swans and great views of the mountains ahead.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place seems really deserted when we were here. You will have to walk about 5 minutes to reach the actual site. Beautiful scenery across Lake Rotoaira and beyond, the scenery alone already worth spending 20 to 30 minutes here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice views of lake. Historic area. A 'flock' of more than 20 fantails swooped, circled and fluttered around me. Some settled on the ground as close a metre away. Never experienced such an event before.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 2 min walk. Best views of the crossing from far. Highly recommended, look for little pathway down the grass verge for another point of view. Must stop.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice peacefullplace to stop for a little hike and absorb the environment. Wonderfull views over the lake. Further not too much to see. There are two sheta but nothing is left of the original maori houses , at least above the ground

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A hidden gem, visited this place twice and at both times deserted, much to my delight! I explored the bush quietly and come up close and personal with several Kererus or the NZ mountain pigeons . Such beautiful, gentle, plump looking birds. They occasionally glanced at me but they quickly lost interest and tolerated my presence. Breathtaking views of Mutuopuhi Island and Lake Rotoaira, which on a calm day, the water is still as glass. Lots of swans, ducks and other birds. This place is historic and is designated as a Maori reserve site. It is also the birthplace of the now famous Haka.
