β β β β β I got my first tattoo with these guys and it was the best decision I made. I'm so glad I chose Otautahi for my first tattoo. They're super friendly, creative, passionate about what they do and super pocket friendly.
Attached is a photo of my first tattoo. Thanks Otautahi. Ellis was the best ever artist. He was so patient and friendly. He even customized my tattoo a bit. I loved it. keep up the good work guys!

I wanted to get something outta my favourite anime character Avatar Kyoshi (ATLA) and found some cool designs online but Grant M., the artist that sculpted the tattoo, came up with such an intricate design and brought it to life with his skills. The picture does not do justice as the actual tattoo looks even cooler! He was very calm and informative, humble and engaging, firm yet talented and went the extra mile to put in the time and effort to shade the tattoo and get mine details right. The whole aura of the place was so cool.. from the Manager Ree who was so welcoming, to everyone in the shop. It was worth flying in from New Plymouth to Auckland just for the tattoo! Iβd give six stars if I could. P.S. imma book myself in for another one soonβ¦Iβm addicted ???βΊοΈ?β?

β β β β β I booked in with Otautahi Tattoo in Auckland after I had a less than desirable experience elsewhere. From the moment I called in too book an appointment with Baz, Bobby picked up the phone and had amazing customer service and communication skills. He was excited as I was that I was coming in, and really made me feel welcome. He answered all my questions and passed on all the information to Barron, the artist doing my tattoo. Barron was really friendly and professional with his questions and his whole process to ensure I felt comfortable. Not only is Barron's artwork amazing but also quite skilled with his machine and I didn't feel too much pain for the majority of the time. The energy in the tattoo shop was positive, which was very refreshing and all other team members were friendly and approachable. If I could offer any kind of feedback to make my personal experience a full 5 star experience is that having more interaction with artist beforehand (Where possible) would be great. I'm a very organized and structured person therefore I believe with more interaction with my artist would have helped me better understand and communicate my ideas more clearly. Overall I had an amazing experience, time passed quickly, and I felt confident being in this shop that I was in great hands; for my future tattoo's after completing my sleeve, Otautahi Tattoo will the first place I consider returning too, and if you're reading this considering your tattoo, definitely give them a call!

β β β β β Can't compare as I didn't go any other shop ...but my overall experience was osam ...Started with Audrey the manager who confirmed my booking due to cancellation as early as 6 am so I could plan it and than there comes the Man " Grant - the tattoo Artist" his over all aura was so good that calmed my nerves . He is a thorough professional .. soft spoken an expert who knows what he is doing ..He Gave me exactly the same design what I was wishing for ...rather he exceeded my expectations ..he shaded and worked details in my case that I m really impressed...I would definitely going to recommend the place and Grant as per my experience...thanks a lot guys ....

β β β β β I highly recommend this place. I got a kirituhi and the overall experience was really special. Do your research before going in. I had done some but wish I had done more. It wasn't cheap but I had known this coming in so I wasn't shocked, even if it was still a little more than I anticipated. It ran me approx. $1,500. What I will say about what is included in this cost: A LOT of hours (artist effort), an amazing experience for a tattoo parlor, and incredible artistry. Ellis was my artist and is such a cool person. He made the whole thing an experience unlike any other I've had getting a tattoo and I'll never forget it. I decided to listen to some L.A.B. today and it brought me back to the day I got this done so I wanted to leave a review for this shop and Ellis!! I went in with an open mind, talked about me/my story, let Ellis do his thing, and it turned out so amazing.
The beauty and detail of this tattoo, considering it was mostly worked/modified/filled in on the fly as he went is so incredible to me. He had a framework but that's pretty much it. He started erasing a lot of his pen lines as he worked and at one point I asked how he was going to keep going. His response was, "I'm a proffesional" :) lol And he proved that he is indeed.
The only negative thing I can mention is that I was told to arrive at 10 but they had scheduled in a consultation before me so I got started a bit late. However, in relation to the amount of time I spent there and what I got done, this isnt even a complaint.

β β β β β 2018, got a full sleeve, after explaining to the artist about my past experiences and how I was talked into getting tattoos that Looked nothing like what I wanted, I was guilt tripped into getting the piece done after he had already spent close to 10mins putting on the stencil, we went ahead with the idea that he created which had none of the ideas I provided other then the βwordβ, payed way too much, tattoo got infected, went back for a touch up and I wasnβt happy, biggest learning experience ever. At the end of the day the overall decision was mine, but I still put a lot of it on the artist also, with my lack of knowledge and poor judgment I ultimately feel like I was taken advantage of. I havenβt spoken out because I didnβt wanna put a stain on the shops brand, But hopefully my testimony helps someone out there so that they do not fall victim to the same treatment.
What I took away from this is, always make sure that it is what you want, trust yourself enough to challenge what the artist is saying weather it be the design, cost or anything that feels off.
