Who are we?
Phototronic Services is an independently owned private company and we have been repairing cameras and photographic equipment for over 50 years. Our technicians are factory trained and have years of experience, we also ensure that they have on going training to keep skill levels high and current.
Phototronic Services are a Authorised Sony Service Centre. We are also the only authorised service agent for the Sony digital imaging range. This includes the Sony Alpha Cameras, Lenses and Accessories, The Sony Cybershot, Handycam and Action Cam Ranges.
In addition Phototronic Services is also a authorised dealer and reseller of many major brands. This allows us not only to supply our customers equipment but provide meaningful experience in selecting the correct equipment for the customer needs; Aswell as the best aftersales advice and support.
History
- 2006 - Phototronic Services appointed as The Sole NZ Authorised Sony Service Agent for Sony Alpha equipment.
- 2006 - Phototronic Services appointed as an Authorised Sony Service Agent.
- 1995 - Kim and Ann Smith took over the company, Kim having worked with the company since 1979 coming from the Minolta agents in the UK.
- 1971 - Phototronic Services Ltd were appointed Minolta Authorised Repair Agents for New Zealand.
- 1967 - Phototronic Services Ltd was first formed by Rhys and Elaine Dando.

I originally sent my lens here through Sony, to have it cleaned after a lens filter breakage, costing me over $200.
I didn’t try the lens again for some time as I was using my prime, and busy with work.
Upon trying the lens, I had dark spots all over my images. I had the sensor cleaned-locally, thinking it was the issue.
I returned the lens to be cleaned again, where I was charged $80 just to ‘look’ at it. Then they wanted to charge me a further $230 to clean a lens they never did properly in the first place.
I’ve been in touch with some other very dissatisfied customers through a FB page.
USE ANYONE ELSE BUT THIS COMPANY!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am a pro photographer and can ill afford to have my cameras down for any length of time. The guys at Phototronic get this and have bent over backwards to accommodate me and turn things around FAST. Most recently dropped off a pro grade body to deal with a Sony Service Announcement. Called them the day before and dropped off camera the next morning. Despite them being busy, and not making any guarantees that things would be ready by end of day, my issue was resolved by mid afternoon!! And on top of that, my camera was cleaned, inspected and sensor swabbed at no extra charge.
If you are a pro shooting Sony gear, these guys are brilliant, and with a depth of knowledge that even I, after 30 years of shooting professionally, can learn something from. I wouldn't trust my gear to anyone else.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you've got modern Sony gear that needs repairing, Phototronic is the real deal. The repair wasn't cheap but you get what you pay for - job completed to an excellent standard and lens seems to be functioning perfectly. I would trust them again with my gear and will be going straight back if I ever need another repair.
