Reception was good but very surprised to be told that the 3% surcharge was on ALL card transactions including eftpos and debit cards and credit cards. Never had this before. Room was clean and tidy but walls thin. Had a great listen to a very long phone conversation very early in the morning. Unlikely to return

Room and linen was clean. However, I was charged 3% surcharge for using their eftpos facility...this was not advertised on their website! No fridge in the room. TV only had 3 channels... The best part was the shower and lack of water coming out. Ran the water for over 10 minutes and still didn't heat. Was informed by motelier I needed to run the hot water tap in hand basin first until water became hot...I was not made aware of this on check-in...The shower definitely needs an overhaul - no pressure whatsoever.....full rates charged!!! So, so disappointing ??

Unfortunately, my friend and I are unable to provide any information regarding the quality of the facilities as we only viewed the Picton House from the locked front door. We booked a motel room for evening of the 1st of January and in the booking we specified in the special request that the β€œapproximate time of arrival was between: 00:00 and 01:00 the next day” as we were arriving on the 12:15am ferry from Wellington. This booking was accepted and further correspondence with Coral (the owner) took place to confirm our late arrival was acceptable. Upon reaching the accommodation at approximately 12:45am, we were confronted with a locked door, Coral did not answer our calls or messages. We had no recent correspondence with Coral and were provided no warning that we would arrive to be locked out. Stressed and tired, we had no choice but to sleep in our car on the side of the road. Fortunately, we are young and able to sleep in our car, I worry for the elderly person or family with young children who are confronted with the situation we were. By 10:30am of the 2nd of January, we had not received a call back or message response from Coral. So I rang hoping for an apology because what happened to us was unacceptable. Coral was extremely rude and totally arrogant. Instead of admitting their mistake, Coral said someone waited for us until 12:45am (clearly not true as we had arrived around this time) and blamed us for not arriving, although we stated in our booking that we may not be there till 1am. We went straight from the ferry to the accommodation, and I assume ferry goers are often guests to the accommodation so it is surprising that Coral did not understand that it takes time to get off the ferry and we have no control of that. We were lucky in the fact that we had not paid in advance. Fair enough if Coral didn’t want to stay up, a key could have been left out or a simple call to see how far away we were would have altered the direction of this review. Interestingly enough, there were no vacancies so I wonder whether someone was lucky enough to have our room for the night. This is certainly a poor way to approach business and definitely not a way to behave as a decent human being. I do NOT recommend booking accommodation here, especially if crossing on a later ferry.

Didn't stay and from the rude conversation with Coral I wouldn't recommend staying especially if the quality of accommodation is anything like the rude phone manner. Reluctant to have to give a bad review as its my first and I normally like to show off our awesome Kiwi businesses around NZ. Id recommend the host take a course on phone manner.

Stayed a night with intention of traveling on the next day,liked it a lot so stayed an exta day.the accomadation was retro70 s,clean comfortable and so reasonably priced.Right in the heart of Picton,run by Coral,an ex west coaster, and her family,they add that extra smile in their hospitality.Sleeps 5 for $90 very good tarrif.I now tell my friends and family this is our new Picton go to.xxRua

Didn't end up booking because of the rude manner I was spoken to over the phone, the host said they were too busy and hung up on me! She actually hung up on me, Jeez I mean if you are going to run a business you need to learn how to deal with people! Really unacceptable customer service. I see from the other reviews I am not the first to encounter this.
