★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sadly this is the first time I've been able to show my respect to The Pike River 29 as I don't live near the area. A sad but serene place with the sounds of the river near & being able to pass my respect on to each one of the 29 I felt very humbled to be there & also a bit tearful. So sad that this even happened may they all RIP together. They will never be forgotten.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are in the area, a visit to the memorial is worth while. As you take a moment to read over the information on display and the tributes to those 29 workers that tragically never made it home, the news stories all of a sudden feel a lot closer to home.
The sound of the river trickling along with the view of the hills in the background really is very sobering.
It was a very moving experience that will stay with me for a long time - may those that lost their lives Rest In Peace.
