β β β β β We used to eat here a lot. Probably because I hadn't found an alternative. After spending a small fortune on mediocre food, served on art deco plates and buying more than one coffee at a time (to try and get the volume of a bowl) I realised I needed to find a cafe that would be kinder to it's loyal customers and treat them like they were valued...
So I found a cafe elsewhere where the staff are genuine, and when you ask them to do something they do it. Not least of all, I can get a real bowl of coffee for much less than what I did pay at PR's. A large bowl of curly fries (with aoli & tomato sauce) and a bowl of coffee prepared to my requirements for a total of ONLY $12.
The last time my friend and I ate at PR's together, she paid, and our total came to $51. I felt so embarrassed...I ordered a large coffee (they don't serve bowls) and she ordered a tulip coffee. We both ordered the same thing...our plates comprised of two very small poached eggs, apparently not free range (dull yokes) three small upturned mushrooms sitting on a small toasted ciabatta(?) and a couple of cheap (fatty) strips of bacon (we kept them for our dogs) the most remarkable thing about the food was the yellow drizzled sauce surrounding our plates, it certainly looked very impressive, it just wasn't very filling.
But, we weren't there to marvel at the chef's architecture, or the tiring heavy art deco angled plates. We wanted food! We wanted to quell our hunger. We wanted to feel like we were being cared for. We wanted to be served (after all that's part of what you pay for) But when we left, I did not feel satiated. I felt embarrassed at what my friend had just spent and that I had added to that by doubling it.
I mentioned this to someone else here in Westport who knows the owners, and I was told it wouldn't matter what I conveyed to Graham, he wouldn't listen (and going by other not-so-great reviews) it's clear, he doesn't.
I think as a connoisseur of fine food, or at least someone in their 60's who enjoys food and has worked in silver service, I feel entitled to comment.
Apparently, my constructive criticism is unwelcome. This after spending a small fortune supporting PR's...
I would suggest Graham needs to listen to the negative criticism of his customers, as the negatives are far more valuable than the platitudes of those who know him.
You are a service industry - you are only as good as your last mess.
I would ditch the art deco heavy angled plates.
I would introduce genuine bowls, and get rid of the "large" cups that are nothing like the volume of a bowl (but cost as much as one)
I would serve only premium quality bacon, not the cheap fatty stuff.
I would serve only quality free range eggs and a generous size.
Instead of constantly saying "I'm sorry" I'd make sure that when the customer is unsatisfied with something, they receive a voucher or something that encourages them to return. Sorry doesn't mean anything unless you do something about it.
I'd look at my pricing.
I'd serve larger portions. (I'd listen to the numerous customers who have reviewed PR's and noted the smaller, and increasingly smaller portions)
I'd give the customer more value for their money.
I'd stop making excuses, listen, and start making changes.
But then why bother? I'm not returning and why should you listen to an old lady who enjoys a coffee, a meal, or a treat at a Westport cafe?
The meals are unimpressive (lots of greenery) mediocre ingredients, and a minimal standard.
Your website does not reflect the real portions, it's a masterpiece in self flattery, an exaggeration.
Maybe it's all about snaring the tourists (who aren't going to return) it certainly isn't value for money. You've gotten lot's of mine, but you won't get any more.

β β β β β We make this a regular stop.
PR's offers a great ambience, location and the food and coffee never miss a beat for us.
It's great having a friendly atmosphere with an indoor/outdoor flow without feeling closed in, and parking is easy too!

β β β β β I particularly love this place's baking. Their coffee is good but so are other places around town. What sets them apart for me is their baking. Their carrot cake looks luxurious and appetising and their slices looks and taste like quality. I don't know who does their baking but I am never disappointed. Regarding baking Pr's stands out in this class for Westport on the days I have visited.

β β β β β Food looked good , we were about to buy food and coffee to take away when the boss of the business walked through cafe , into kitchen , no mask , whistling away .
We are in the middle of an omicron breakout and this guy thinks it's clever to do that?
I feel for the staff who have to work with an unmasked person . How safe are they ?

β β β β β What an amazing coffee shop and team! I stopped by as I needed a coffee and a power plug to do some work on my laptop and ended up staying there for a bit longer than I thought. They were very kind and brought me another complementary coffee, which made my day! Thanks team!
Highly recommended
