★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of my favourite places in the world to get a cold shower. It is definitely better than the newer but definitely not new toilets/showers at the Coyle Park end. They give me the heebie jeebies. I'm afraid if I accidentally touch the wall in those showers my skin will start to peel. My mum would not be happy.
If Auckland Council can spend a squijillion dollars doing up the public bathrooms at Mission Bay and Takapuna which were relatively plush, why can't the cleaners actually clean the shower area here? I have swum at Pt Chev for years (since well before both blocks were refurbished years ago) and I don't think the showers have once been cleaned. The West Auckland Jif Jar is just empty...
To commend these showers though is a fantastic inner city lap beach. Facing the sunset (unique for an rast coast beach) this beach is often calm when other beaches are choppy, and generally a couple of degrees warmer than the other beaches. So come on AC, change up the programme! Or I'll get my mum to visit you guys and start banging some heads together...
