★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Pukenui Forest loop is about 3 1/2 hour steady walk. The track is very very well marked simply follow the orange arrow . It is beautiful and a moderate walk

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful walking track within easy driving distance from Kamo. Well worth the drive. The work in pest management and control means the chances of seeing less common native and endemic birds is high. Was cool to see a North Island Tomtit as I walked. The forest floor is beautiful too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful forest park, right on the doorstep to Whangarei City. Some tracks are well-maintained and lesser known tracks not so much. Local park trust is doing a fantastic job of predator control. Lots of native flora and fauna to see here. Just make sure you start your walk early enough that you finish in daylight unless you bring good torches. Kiwis have been released here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Have only done the shorter easier track. Lots of steps, big Kauri was majestic. Lots of roots, you certainly need to watch where you put your feet.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Was looking for walks near kamo and saw this, never been before so thought I'd give it a go with the family. Super pretty native bush, will have to do the bigger the loop ( 5hrs) next time. Did the shorter loop (3hrs) had the kid with us bring a backpack to put the small kids in, there is a nice flat path at the start but is super steep in parts but totally worth it. Big kauri tree on the smaller loop. Nice carpark( no loos) good family hike or run if you're as keen as some of the people we saw on this walk ?
