★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The place is very well looked after. The camping areas are nice and flat and well mowed. There are toilet facilities and running water which is probably drinkable but i would boil first. I thought the price per night was a little expensive at $13/night/person. I think that DOC needs to rethink its pricing. Just because its scenic shouldnt make it more expensive.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The drive to this area alone is worth the effort. Stunning emerald green fields surrounded by majestic mountain peaks...Quite amazing. The short walk to Sylvan Lake I did with my family was likewise gorgeous in terms of scenery. The Hututawai (red beech) trees that dominate here, capture beautiful light when the sun shines and if you're lucky you may meet a Kakaruwai (South Island Robin) who are notoriously inquisitive and will make your visit even more special.
