★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have tried to contact these people twice over the afternoon [ Wednesday 21/11/2018] when, according to their hours available, they should have been in or answering their cell phone or business homeline. I also have personally been there at the Fitzroy address around 2 pm, to find no one there..... It is now past closing time at 5 pm and I haven't heard back. When I get a chance to hire one of their cars I will post my opinion again.
I have now hired and returned a rental through RAD New Plymouth.
It appears that RAD must have returned the calls using an "unknown number" as that was what registered on my phone. I'm unable to return a call to such as it doesn't give me the number . As I receive many of these,generally by dodgy characters, I don't usually answer them. However , I do go into my message box to check for a message left.
My suggestion would be to allow the phone number to register so customers can call back, or leave a message to that effect.
Having now rented a car from RAD for the week I am more than satisfied with the service. The car was a reasonably late model Toyota , clean and tidy, and very much fit for purpose [ requested for a tall man]. They accommodated our inadvertent tardiness waiting an extra 20 minutes for us to return the car.
Now, furthermore, I was impressed to see that they provided a truck and driver to pick up Food Bank donations around my area! Well done RAD Rental Cars!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a nice experience renting a RAV4 from these guys this Labour weekend. Although the vehicle was 2009 model it was well maintained & didn't give us any trouble. It was indeed value for money. Prompt communications & was met at the airport on arrival. From my experience, these guys are no drama providing good service. Keep up the good work team :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a great-value easy-going car hire company. Ordered online at Taupo, vehicle was ready and waiting for me in New Plymouth. No excessive paperwork, in and out in five minutes flat. Zippy little Toyota Ractis a real petrol miser. And a bargain compared with the big-name operators; $55 on the first day, 45 on the second - and unlimited mileage, which I didn't see anywhere else for bookings made outside the bigger cities. Very reasonable insurance and excess reduction. Simple drop-off at the airport - not staffed so no nit-picking once-over: just leave the key. Nice that they seem to trust their customers. Had a good laugh and joke with the good-natured bloke at the depot who I got out of bed early on a Sunday morning. Another good Kiwi experience on a trip full of them. Thanks guys.

I was charged a few extra dollars becoz tank was not full. Was explained that when fuel up their cars it has to be continued even the gas gun stopped, have to keep going until it stopped again? To be honest I have rented cars all over NZ and other countries as well this is the first time that I ever heard of this.
The guy explained this to me was very friendly but i wish they could have told me earlier about the special policy or send me an invoice of details right after the credit card was charged to avoid the confusing.

Trevor and his team made the experience a breeze. the vehicles are clean and tidy and the service is exceptional. They are friendly, courteous and always willing to accommodate your needs. Cons:
I wasn't the first. So beware. I was charged extra $21.88 dollars for fuel because tank was claimed not full even I filled it to full. And their reasoning, EXACT WORD "...even fuel pump has click off, unfortunately, you then need to hold the fuel pump and fill the car until you can see the fuel is right up to the top." That is just cheeky and ridiculous? This is the first time that I ever heard of this, to be honest, I have rented car numerous time too like the previous comments.
Extra charges straight on to the credit card without even checking/noticing first. I wish they could have told me earlier about the special policy to avoid the confusion I only found when checking card statement.
I'll suggest that when return car, instead of suggested dropping keys off, get them to meet you and pick up the car so that both parties agreed that car is returned in great condition and both parties happy.
Or else you 'might' get into this nasty he says/ she said situation.
