★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Car itself was good. The day before I was to pick up the vehicle I received a call from owner to say she couldn’t get my credit card charged. I explained that she wouldn’t be able to as I had it turned off on my phone. I didn’t realize she would want to charge it the day before. I assumed we would do that when we picked it up. She then tried her utmost to convince me that it must be a debit card and not a credit card even asking me if it had debit written on it. She would not listen to what I was saying and I had to get quite angry to convince her to wait for 5minutes for me to turn it on and then try again. I felt like she was treating me like an idiot. Not a great start. I have had this card for 3yrs and it has the facility so that if it goes missing I can immediately turn it off and also limit the amount it can be used for.When we picked up the car the fuel gauge was not showing full. It was nearly down to 3/4. We drove from the airport to my daughters place in Kamo then back to town and it was on 3/4. Sent An email to owner but so far have not heard back. Don’t feel inclined to use them again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tried to rent a car with my friend on 31 December so we can drive to the beaches, just for 1 day. We were so not welcomed in this office!!! I don't know what was going on with the lady in the office and a man that were working that day but they they were giving us really clear signs they don't want to rent a car to us by behaving very strangely, exchanging long meaningful looks between them and answering on almost every question with obvious discouragment. I percieved them as racist and totally disrespectful. Was it how we were dressed? Was it our accents?? We had more than plenty of money to rent any car but if they judged us by how we looked and spoke, then they are simply racist. Would not reccommend this place to anyone at all.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went there on short notice as my car had broken down and as a support worker I needed to get to my clients so needed a car desperately. The lady there was understanding and helpful and within 5 minutes I was in a car at very reasonable rates. Thank you I will use them again. Terry Allison.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The vehicle was in disrepair with a very strong pull to the left which made driving hazardous. It was rough and a real mess to drive.
We have rented cars before and they have never been in such a state. WONT BE RENTING AGAIN FROM WHANGAREI RAD BECAUSE OF THIS EXPERIENCE (See below).
The admin person was extremely rude to me about my credit card.
I get a phone call the day before we arrive saying she wants another credit card. She didn't say it had declined, she said she wanted another credit card not a debit card.
I explained to her that it wasn't a debit card and that I don't put money onto the card until I need it.
She didn't accept that and would not listen. She insisted she needed another card.
I see another reviewer has had the same issue with the lady.

So finally I convinced her that I wasn't a fraud, that in fact I had transferred money over onto the card as we speak.
She was almost shouting at me and my witness (as we were on speaker phone) said she was really angry and unprofessional.
There was no apology when the payment went through just a very terse email asking me to acknowledge that I understood the terms and conditions.
Really bad service in my opinion.
I was highly disappointed in the whole experience. The car was a mess and the admin person was totally unprofessional.
We had hired from RAD two times before. Once in Whangarei where a man was lovely to deal with and once in Christchurch. They were brilliant experiences. The cars were lovely and the hire went like a dream.
Dealing with Whangarei RAD this time was a nightmare. The car shouldn't have been on the road and the admin person's attitude was disgusting.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rented a car for the week while we were in Whangarei. The car was a great little run around, perfect for our family. Sharon was lovely to deal with, which made the process so easy and enjoyable:)
Would definitely hire from there next time we are in town.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quite rude service when we picked up the car in Whangarei. They also had posts up on their wall with political propoganda, complaining about people who steal their rental car, and how they are methheads and "should be shot out back!" It made us very uncomfortable renting a car from them, already after a rude welcoming from the front desk.
