★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful location. It was a little hard to find. The track for it is at the back(?) of the campground. Used google maps to help locate it. A step walk to get there. Rock map shows where the boat is buried in the sea.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Short but steep walk. Amazing views. Info panel at the bottom. I learned two key things. 1 it is resunk under the blessing of Ngati Kura the local hapu and is now an intermediate level dive. 2 the boat was named after a native American (Hopi) proverb "When the Earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come into the Earth from many colors, classes and creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the Earth green again. They shall be known as "Warriors of the Rainbow".

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The French government basically committed a murder and got away with it. Not that we were going to fight the French anyway. The best thing about this memorial are the surrounds. Perched on top of this rock after a short walk uphill you can see the two bays that abutt this rock. Beautiful.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Staying at the matauri camp ground a very friendly place. The walk up to the monument is steep but short and so very worth it. We took a picnic so as to sit and savor the views.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This memorial was really beautiful. It was a short, but well inclined, walk up the hill to get to it. Right off of the campsite we stayed it.
Even throughout the walk you’re forced to stop to take pictures of the stunningly beautiful surroundings. If you have the opportunity to stop here, do it.

It’s kind of unsignposted, until you get to the sign.
To get to the sign, you’ve got to go through the campground.
To go through the campground, you’ve got to park down the road.
And, according to the lovely lady at the campground shop, let them know that you are entering the camp, they like to know...
It’s a short sharp climb, probz best not attempted if you haven’t changed the battery in your pacemaker lately.
