We visited Rangiriri today 15 August 2021 to find that this attraction is no more, unfortunately. What a shame, for such an historical area. We intend to return in 2-3 months time, with a visit to nearby Te Kauwhata and then to Rangiriri. The Rangiriri Cemetery is literally awesome, with informative signboards, and clearly marked headstones for the British soldiers killed in the Rangiriri battle. There is a grassy mound where were buried the Maori killed in that battle, but according to the signboard their bodies were later removed and buried elsewhere. It seemed appropriate to see a small Maori independence flag fluttering there today, whether you agree with that movement or not. Then on to the historical Rangiriri Paa site, where an active imagination can feel the history of another time and different standards. Very well worth a visit!

Rangiriri Heritage & Interpretation Centre is a must see & visit by everyone. The centre is professionally run by the local hapu (tribe) Ngati Naaho who explain the local history and the Invasion from British Imperial forces in the 19th century. The original Pa site and trenches that were partially reconstructed opened in 2017 are within walking distance and close by.
