About Rappaw Veterinary Care Paremata

Ian graduated from Massey University, in New Zealand, in 1986. He spent his first 3 years in rural practice in Patea, Taranaki. Ian then went to work in the England for 4 years. During his time there he moved from rural practice to working in companion animal practice. He also travelled extensively in Asia, the UK, Europe and Africa during the time overseas. In 1992 Ian returned to New Zealand to marry his wife Kay and settle in Wellington. Ian bought the Paremata Veterinary Hospital in 1993. He spent the next 12 years building it up from a single vet practice to a 3-vet practice. In 1995 Ian helped establish and set-up the Wellington After Hours Veterinary Clinic. He has been a board member twice since then. Ian purchased the Kapi-Mana Veterinary Hospital and Titahi Bay Veterinary Clinic in 2004. In 2007, together with the Paremata Veterinary Hospital, the three clinics were merged under the new name Rappaw Veterinary Care. Ian has worked on the New Zealand Veterinary Association Companion Animal Society committee and the Practice Standards committee. Ian has lived in Whitby since 1994 and Ian played football (but not very well) for the Western Suburbs Football Club for 14 years. He has coached junior teams since 2007. Ian has completed the Coast to Coast individual race three times, most recently in 2008 and 2009. Ian enjoys the New Zealand outdoors whether it be running, kayaking or skiing, as well as travelling to wonderful places around the world. At home he has one re-homed dog, Holly, and an ex-shelter cat, Harry.

Gave us a comprehensive diagnosis of our old girl (cat), and gave us a better ageing. Being at 15 years she's doing well. This time we're there to the Paremata branch with Marmalade for a urinary infection which is all cleared up now. I would have to say they are one of the best vets in the region with branches in Tawa, Paremata, Plimmerton, and Whitby.

We adopted 2 unvaccinated puppies who should have been vaccinated they had parvo virus when we got them from the breeder the team were so friendly to us when we got the bad news and so helpful with the payment and contacting the breeders and spca to help investigate the breeders. They were very apologetic with the euthanasia and even sent us a card saying how sorry they are. We are very impressed how above and beyond they went.

Anti raw diet from raw essentials. Rudely tried to force royal canin kibble on me, made out of rice. My perfectly healthy dogs wont be fed trash. Anyone who suggests these ingredients are good for your dog are absolutely beyond clueless. Sorry. And no, dogs shouldn't be eating rice with a multivitamin on top, no matter how hard they try to make it sound good. (Rice, dehydrated poultry protein, maize, vegetable protein isolate*, maize gluten, animal fats, minerals, hydrolysed animal proteins, chicory pulp, fish oil, vegetable fibres, psyllium husks and seeds, fructo-oligosaccharides, soya oil, borage oil, green tea and grape extracts (source of polyphenols), hydrolysed crustaceans (source of glucosamine), marigold extract (source of lutein), hydrolysed cartilage (source of chondroitin)).

I have been to quite a few different vets and I can say hands down that they have been the best to deal with. We have to purchase our cat's food from a vet and this clinic has been the only one who can keep on top of their stock and not make it a huge deal for us to need to purchase it from them! They are also helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate when our pet needs them. They also have amazing and accessible opening hours. It's so nice to be able to deal with a company who understand many people work 9-5 and simply can't make it during work hours. I highly recommend them!
