★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful setting, great place to walk around what's left of the market ~ many gaps!? Not as humming as it was 18 ~ 24 months ago, its stall holders have dwindled, sadly. Still there's the peaceful walk through Riccarton Bush. Never been that fussed on the coffee ☕️ shop / cafe in the big house ~ better food and coffee with the stall holders ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful nature reserve and Gardens to walk around, well maintained gardens and Riccarton Bush is a great native planting and bird reserve with a couple of looping walks through the bush. Great to have this hidden gem in the middle of Riccarton.

The markets have tons of options and lots of different food - including organic options if that's what you're into.
Cute benches by the stream too. However, a few more coffee shops wouldn't go amiss!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A real hidden gem in the middle of Christchurch. The Bush is beautiful to walk around and has multiple seats to stop along the way and listen to the birds and smell the fresh smells of native NZ plants. The longer route is 900m but you can take your time. The site shows some colonial history of the area with the historical house and deans house which adds interest to the site. The carpark is fairly small and was busy on a weekday morning, parking may be difficult at more popular times.

On a hot day, within the bush it is quite cool (temperature wise) enough talking points for those who are wanting to give an educational visit. Possible to walk around the few tracks for an hour with stops to read the signs that are placed throughout the area.
