About Ripples Retreat

Built on land used to film The Hobbit, we’ve designed Ripples to make your stay incredibly special.

It's so cosy and inviting, you might not want to get out of the four-poster bed before lunch or you can get out on a adventurous daytrip at dawn.

Fish, swim or kayak in the stream, take in the beauty of a waterfall walk, cycle the Timber Trail, visit Waitomo Caves or drive 15 mins to the highly recommended Fat Pigeon cafΓ©.

It is easy.

Flick of the tap to run a bath, no fires to light, just sit back and immerse yourself in nature.

What a fabulous place! Perfect for a peaceful, restorative getaway, yet close to so many fun places to explore. The beautifully designed cabin looks out over epic cliffs on one side and a flowing river on the other. The breathtaking setting combined with the well-equipped kitchen made us wish we could stay longer. Thank you, Ripples - We will certainly be back!

For a family of 4- we had a fantastic stay! Never once did the kids complained that they can't use their devices. They enjoyed a dip in the stream ( yes, in winter as a dare ) and kayaked! The cabin is well thought of. l love the outdoor bath and the porch swing- really enjoyed my reading and glass of wine ( or two!). Piopio is very handy with their cafes/restaurants . There are amazing scenic walks nearby. Thank you Trudie and Brendan for creating this beautiful retreat. Until our next visit! Ana, Fred, Julian and Frean

We returned for a second time after enjoying our first visit in 2020. Stayed 3 nights and enjoyed again our time at Ripples and the relaxation that comes with staying there. Will definitely be back again! Katrina and Mike

Absolutely loved our stay here! It's a real slice of paradise, wonderfully peaceful and perfectly designed for relaxation. It's clear that a great deal of care and attention has been put into Ripples and as a result it's very easy to feel like your every wish is being taken care of even though there's nobody else around for miles. It's a truly unique experience, definitely recommended.

We absolutely loved our stay at Ripples, it really is a special retreat. Plenty to do nearby if you want yet so beautiful & easy to sit, relax and enjoy the view doing absolutely nothing as well. You need at least a few days here to truly enjoy everything there is to offer, so make it a long weekend! Looking forward to another excuse to getaway there again ?

Escaped the city on Christmas eve to spend a few nights at this incredible spot. Here we found peace, tranquility and relaxation - couldn't have asked for more. The accommodation was extremely comfortable with all you needed. The outdoor bath spent gazing at the stars was amazing & the river refreshing. The Hosts were welcoming. We definitely found peace here and we will be back!

My wife, daughter and I stayed at the Ripples Retreat for 2 nights and by far this is the most relaxing trip we've ever had in New Zealand. Ripples Retreat is a luxury accommodation farm-stay with the cabin set in a beautiful landscape. It is well designed and stocked with high quality curated amenities . The outdoor bathtub offers spectacular views of the river, hills and farm animals. We enjoyed swimming in the river, kayaking and the exclusivity that the place provides. The best local attraction was the scenic Waitanguru falls which is about 5 minutes drive. A truly delightful experience.

Superb! So nice to be out and away from it all. Plenty of trout in the river to be caught once you have your license! Note these photos are from a day trip we did while staying at Ripple's.
