Really nice, short walk to a classic lighthouse. Down the cliff you can see penguins and the rugged coastline. Well maintained, safe path.

Better be lucky, and know what time to come we came 2 hours before sunset and stayed until then and saw nothing. But the info displayed in the little kinda hut is helpful and very informative. Plus the view is nice

Nice view, to see some yellow-eye pinguin, check the picture upload, i guess it would be better to be there when they arrive. 5 min easy walk (one way)

This was one of the spots I was most excited to see, cause who doesn't love penguins! Unfortunately we didn't spot any penguins because we arrived after penguin rush hour on the beach so remember to arrive an hour or so before sunset. Aside from our poor timing.. the hidey hole is in a great spot and has a sweet informational poster about the yellow eyed penguins. Roaring bay itself also has a classic beauty of the Catlins so you can't go wrong there!

Good views over the stunning beach below. Sadly there were no penguins as I went during the day, there was a seal swimming in the water though.

We were lucky enough to see a yellow eyed penguin and a sea lion just upon arrival at the hide. End of July around 4:30pm. A small carpark/off shoulder parking before going further to nugget point main parking. Good luck guys. BTW, a binoculars is not really needed since the hide is already so close to the bay.

Saw sea lions and waited for penguins but they didnt appear, maybe bad timing or we we just looking at the wrong places and completely missed them :( but beautiful walk to the viewing house, so would recommend coming here anyways.

Data point: arrived around 4:30 PM in mid-April, no wildlife spottings at all (except a couple stray goats). Of course that was disappointing, but that's how it goes sometimes. The hide itself was really nice and offered great sightlines to the beach. The walk is pretty and only takes a few minutes from the small carpark. Bring a telephoto lens if you have one just in case!
