★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Different environment than the nature you usually see in Auckland. But not something you would die to see. No shade at all, just a plain with pits and puddles around, where groups of birds were in sight. We didn't see any bird closely and the path with no shade was a little uncomfortable. Overall if it's on your way, it's worth a stop and wander for half an hour or so.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely bird hides.. great sighting.. One thing of importance while going there is to note not only the tide timings but the height of the tide as well. Higher the high tide, better the bird sighting. The regulars come down with mono scopes and share their ample knowledge with anyone who wishes to gain insight into the lands wonderful topography.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing birds, amazing three hides. Good secure carpark. 2500 odd Godwits, 1500 knots, 2000 Stilt, 3000 SIPO. Plus two rarities; Lesser Sandplover and Black fronted tern.
However, a composting toilet in the carpark would be nice.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We love visiting here. We saw the last of the godwits before they make their long flight to Alaska, as well as thousands if other birds. Visited the shore birds centre for the first time. Highly recommended, extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great Bird watching site. Usually see a photographers frequent this spot. There is plenty of parking around the area and a toilet as well. Both short and long walks can be found at the reserve which lead to the lookout / obversation sheds, the tracks are flat and easy. Great place to bring the kids to learn about wildlife.
