★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A memorial hut off Western Valley Road on the South East side of the ridge between Little River and Port Levy.
Solar Panels means LED lighting. There's a nice woodstove, clean two level layout and the heat rises up to the bunkrooms. Excellent views and great for midwinter in the snow when people don't like to be cold and wet.
During the summer months, this hut is POPULAR so booking it online is essential!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rod Donald Hut is a great little hut not too far away from Christchurch.
The hut has 9 beds, and requires pre-booking on the DOC website. There are sicks and a toilet at the hut along with LED lighting and a small fire place. It costs $15 per night to stay at the hut
There are multiple options for walking to the hut, the shortest is to park at the top of the Port Levy saddle and follow the signs to the hut. You can walk from Hilltop on the way to Akaroa, or walking from one of the many tracks leading to Mt Herbert. All of these options require varying degrees of fitness, but there is something for all fitness levels.
