★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Friendly and approachable, especially at first. Unfortunately it was just incredibly difficult to get a hold of them once I had engaged their services, then once my lawyer took payment I never again had a response to any of my messages.
I dealt with RVG Christchurch in early to mid 2021 for a straight-forward and standard situation that must be pretty every-day work for most solicitors. Biggest challenge I had was often needing to send multiple emails/leave messages on their phone to have documents sent to the other party or issues raised from the bank addressed (this would be after they told me they’d send the documents that same day). I would receive messages from my lawyer asking when I was free to come into their office and when I responded with times I'd get no reply. All-in-all it was almost 5 weeks beyond the Settlement date by the time it all went through. When I raised prior to the Settlement date that it didn't seem like we were going to make it on-time, my lawyer said they would just need to inform the other party's lawyer which unfortunately never happened.
When I brought up my concern about the delays with my lawyer they disagreed (there are un-replied to e-mails and text messages...) and from that point on I never saw or heard from my lawyer again and was dealt with by their Legal Executive, or another lawyer when I did have to come in to sign papers. Once settlement was completed and they took payment I never got a response again from my lawyer or their Legal Executive to my queries. The two other law firms involved in this situation didn't seem to have these issues; they were quick to contact their clients (never having to be chased up) and had documents signed and sent within a day or two, so RVG seemed the outlier in this situation.
Finally, they also charged more than the other firm for the same or less work involved so unfortunately I didn't even find they were value-for-money. If you do end up using RVG Law I hope your experience is vastly different from mine!
