★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have taken my things from storage only to discover that many of them are damaged due to the moisture from the Silverdale Self Storage facility.
I have had to throw away an expensive down duvet, several suits, and other items, as they are beyond repair.
I am now having to pay to have the clothing, and bed linen drycleaned. The rest I have had to throw away.
Huge amounts of mold and mildew have grown on my belongings.
Many precious, irreplaceable, family photographs have also been damaged.
When I first hired the unit I asked Mark if it was dry as mold was a concern. Mark assured me that it was indeed dry and secure from the weather and mold would not be an issue. I asked Mark if he was sure of this and he said he was.
It is my view that Mark Tillett should not be offering those units to anyone who has precious items. In addition to this Mark Tillett misrepresented what it was I was paying for, that is, a dry unit for my belongings.
I have taken the damaged belongings and will be taking the matter to the disputes tribunal.
I tried to discuss this in writing with Mr Tillett. He was very reluctent to have a record of our discussion in writing and tried to talk only on the phone so there was no record.
Mr Tillett does not bleieve that any compensation is warrented, and I am therefore taking the matter to the disputes tribunal.
I would suggest to anyone who has valuable possessions to store them elsewhere at a dry facility with an operator whose runs their business in an ethical, honest, and responsible way, so that they do not find their possessions damaged or destroyed as mine have been.
