Made a booking for 2 months in advance for 17 August as that was apparently their first available booking. I rang 1 month after the call to double check it was in fact August. They told me it was actually 17 July. So I took 4 hours off work in for it only to be turned away. Very poor communication skills on this occasion.

I had a basal cell carcinoma removed. The price was good, the service was excellent and the surgeon was lovely. I highly recommend this business.

Lead times for appointments are ridiculous, my doctor has not contacted me after several months of trying to get some simple queries answered... Overall my GP was more helpful with treating my skin condition than these people.

Hello I had an appointment yesterday for a suspect itchy moles on my head at The Skin Institute Takapuna. I was to told while seeing the specialist she could only check three moles and I would have to make another appointment. I wanted all the moles check and if I had known before I would have made a full appointment. Secondly, I was with her for about 1 minute in total. She said 2 were fine and the 3rd one fine but then she started to talk in medical terms and I had no idea what she was talking about. I was told to keep an eye on it which is hard to do when it is on the top of your head. I felt I was rushed in and out. Much better places to go. Never again.

I was not impressed, I paid $2400 to have some scar tissue removed on my shoulder which most GP's would do for maybe $100. I thought the Skin Institute would do a better job, but as it turned out the tissue just grew back anyway to much the same as it was before. Waste of money. I also thought the Skin Institute was highly unprofessional as I initially made a consultation appointment and subsequently arranged a time to have surgery. I called up to cancel that date saying I would arrange a time to do the surgery at a later date as I was quite busy. I later booked and had the surgery. Regardless the old crone who does the accounts changed me an additional $300 for the consultation appointment, despite the fact she admitted to me on the phone they only charge people the consultation fee if it looks like the patient is going to cancel and not go through the surgery! So ultimately I don't recommend this place - the end result was disappointing and they ripped me off by charging extra for the consultation. I strongly suggest that for minor surgery you just go to your GP or otherwise try a different skin specialist.

Had a Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) removed from my ear at the skin Institute in Takapuna, friendly and professional staff. Surgeon fee for the excision and closure was $2760.00 plus lab fee of $510. No problem with the above fees. Theatre fee $1,850 plus sundries $1,597 a grand total of $3,447. The Skin Institute has refused to give me a breakdown of the sundries used. My previous Surgeon in Remuera removed four BCC’S, three on my face and one on my left ear. The BBC on my left air came back positive. He could not re operate so referred me to the Skin Institute. His fee was $1,050 for the Theatre, Sundries, and Anaesthesia (local). Having operated on my 4 BCC’s, I found his charges reasonable compared with the outrageous $3,447 charged by the Skin Institute to operate on one BCC. I would like a breakdown to justify these excessive fees.

My experience at the Skin Institute was amazing. I saw Dr. Sam Mayhew on my 1st visit, he investigated my symptoms and provided me with a referral away push to see specialist Dr Catrinel Popescu with no charge for the time he spent with me. ? After visiting North Harbour medical center multiple times within a month with no improvement and no support. I started looking into it myself my research lead me to believe that I may have Lupus. I booked myself an appointment with Skin institute as a last ditch attempt to get helf from a professional. Seeing specialist gave me a huge relieve after 3 months of struggling to get anyone to take my symptoms seriously. Dr. Catriel is amazing, she is doing a great job looking after me fantastic, my facial swelling has reduced and coming to normal stage, she still doing all sorts of test to make sure the she has the correct diagnosis. She always calls me to update blood results and ask how I am which my doctors never did until I call the nurse to check my results. By the way I am writing this only after 1st visit to Dr Catrinle. So thank you so much to Skin institute!! I will definitely stick with them and highly recommend to anyone with skin issues. The girls at the reception also fantastic.
