About Sneaker Clean NZ
I had the idea of starting a sneaker cleaning business in 2017 while working at Timberland, Sylvia park. We often had foreign customers ask if there were any shoe cleaning services around Auckland and it was here that I saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the market. I spent months researching different types of leathers and understanding how leathers are made, dyed and manufactured for shoes. Research then progressed to other types of materials and how it reacted to certain chemicals and cleaning products. There wasn’t much out there in terms of guidelines to research off and no business models to follow. Sneaker Clean NZ Ltd. started and continues to operate through everyday learnings and experience. As a naive 19 year old I thought to myself why not just give it a crack and I was on my way.
This all started from an idea to fill a gap in the market and a dream of having a store with different locations where people could drop off their shoes to be cleaned. It hasn't been easy, chasing this dream has come with a lot of sacrifice and commitment, for 4 years I worked full time as a plumbing apprentice, part time as a sales assistant at Timberland (late night and weekends) and then finishing off my days with growing Sneaker Clean. working 70 plus hours a week i've always believed that this could fruit into something worth pursuing.
In 2021 I left behind the security of full time employment to chase the dream of building a successful business out of Sneaker Clean NZ, it's been a rollercoaster just to get this far with the business but I understand time is of the essence. I am confident in the systems I have built and have a solid team humming along this journey of creating something out of nothing but an idea and a little hard work.
