For over 100 years our place here in Te Aro, Wellington, has been a favourite meeting place for locals. We love being a part of the community and we are ready to throw in the hard yards to make sure everyone who visits us has a great experience. The Cross has something for everyone - have a look around and choose the perfect spot to suit your mood. Each area has been designed to create a different experience, a different ambience. Bring in your team from work, your mates, your kids, your grandparents, your study group, your special someone, your laptop, your dog (in the garden bar!) or your party guests – we can set you up with a space, top-notch food and drinks to suit your occasion.
We like to make our guests as comfortable as they would in their own home. Our friendly staff will ensure you enjoy your time at ours. We love to play host at special occasions – we provide you with a hassle-free time with plenty of delicious food and drinks (not to mention we take care of the clean up!). The Cross is also a great place to pop into if you’re in the mood to chill – we have magazines, newspapers and boardgames on hand if you’re keen.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ wont be back again, food was very average for the price. the starters was lovely. the steak was nice but the Fried Anna potatoes was cold obviously heated in a microwave as there was warm spots. there was also meant to be broccoli but was none on the plate, only 1 brussels sprout that was cut up. none of us finished our meals as it was not very nice. mash was also cold and had no flavor. no steak knife were provided. our waitress was super nice as she only started her second shift there, she did a great job. we had another girl bring drinks over (blond girl) she was rude dismissive to our request and i waited 30min for a small cocktail. one positive is that they played great music. there's much better place in the capital to enjoy a great meal. wish we did our research better before booking.

Unfortunately food was less than average. My daughter and I both ordered the steak and broccoli. As I’ve had that before. Pay good $$ for what you expect a good steak. But the steak had stringy sinew. My. Daughter didn’t have more than 1 bite. We also didn’t like the garlic butter thing. It wasn’t nice at all. It was a lot different than it use to be. Which was the nice potato, good steak, egg and broccoli. My son had a chicken burger didn’t eat it. My partner was ok with her meal fish n chips. And my other daughter didn’t like her fish. We thought my daughter was getting a Sunday with her kids fish n chips but we weren’t offered that.
We won’t go back there for the food.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Staff are friendly! Service is fast! Drinks are great! But food is blah. Our meals were just bland and boring, we ordered the Buddha bowl and it came missing the dressing and some of the toppings. And we’re pretty sure it was made with microwave rice. We expected better as the food was quite pricey. Would go again for drinks but would definitely give the food a miss!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Southern Cross bar is a big spacious venue with indoor and outdoor areas. Clean, tidy and well presented. They have a wide range of food and drinks. Staff are polite and professional. As well as a pool table they have lots of screens to watch sport. They even have kids play areas. Good place.

I went with my two girl friends for some drinks and salad, but was a little disappointing, since is such a nice place.
Vegetarian option was very poor as per photos and the other salad had raw broccoli, in my opinion should have been mentioned in the menu or by the staff and neither happened. The third salad was actually quite good.
When my friend received her vegetarian salad she was quite shocked, so the waitres offered to change it for another one, very good service.
Probably going back, but just for drinks!

This is the place for those who love steak, but you can definitely try their fish of the day, chicken, seafood chowder and more.
I came here twice so far and once I tried the sirloin steak with fries and salad (very generous portion) then the stone grill lunch with 200gr rump steak, with green salad and fries. We also tried pita bread with hummus and it’s yummy indeed.
As for the drinks, you have various choices as well. I tried the orange juice and the green goodness, a combination of celery, cucumber, mint, ginger and lime. Love it!
The restaurant has spacious place, with garden in the back and seating in the front area and inside. The bar is open provides many as well.
It’s disability friendly as well, with space and facilities provided for those with reduced mobility.
Service is good and staff is friendly as well.
Health protocol is observed, get your vaccine pass ready and check their opening hours during the traffic light system.
As for the price, it’s medium range but it matches the food and the experience.
Parking might be a bit tricky but you can secure some spots nearby.
