About St Mary of the Angels
St Mary of the Angels, a diverse community, seeks to praise and thank God in a place of calm and beauty and strives to be Christ alive in Central Wellington.
The congregation is diverse in its ethnic make up. Slightly more than half of those present are NZ European. There are significant Filipino, Korean, and Chinese communities; there is a small part of the congregation who identify as NZ Maori; 14% of the congregation represents a diverse range of other smaller ethnic groups.
St Mary of the Angels is a ‘Parish Church’ for some. For many it is a devotional centre at the heart of the city. This blend of territorial parish and devotional centre helps give St Mary’s a unique character. When you add the atmosphere generated by the majesty and beauty of the environment it is easy to sense why so many want to call it ‘home’.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I don't why we need to review Churches. Is it as if one place sends more souls to heaven than the rest? Otherwise, this is a really beautiful church. Priests are really accomodating, nice and friendly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My Ash Wednesday was attended on the 3rd @ 5pm Church Mass, afta we missed our last year coz of Alert Level 4/Lockdown. Prayers and lit candles too n so happy to received Holy Communion coz mostly I do Virtual Masses. Misses attending Church ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I used to frequent St Mary of the Angels to attend the weekly liturgy in my heyday as a VUW student. Sometimes, I would go there just to contemplate the future, or seek spiritual refuge. Being away from home was challenging at the time.
The church is located on the corner of Boulcott Street and O'Reily Avenue in Wellington, New Zealand. It is the parish church for Wellington Central and one of the major churches of the city. The church is classified as a special or outstanding historical or cultural heritage significance. So, it's worth a visit, especially if you're a practising Roman Catholic.
St Mary of the Angels is also renowned for its Gregorian Chant used in liturgies.
