β β β β β Worst treatment encountered for my 3 year child and felt discrimination and neglected by the doctors. 3 hours of waiting and all they came up with was mixed results. Doctor says he wasn't dehydrated just by touching the tummy while the nurse indicates dehydration from the urine analysis and needs to be checked by clinician.... Lot of waiting times not just during covid times but had the same issue twice in last 3 years..... They don't even send us back home despite we are uncomfortable sitting for long time... Idle time makes parents super crazy and so annoying.

β β β β β Nurses are brilliant on the starship ward. They are attentive and most are caring and empathetic. When chatting with them you will realise how short staffed they are. They are supposed to have 3 patients each , but when we were there they had 6 each. When my son needed massive amounts of painkiller and attention, they were calm and collected and efficient. The doctors and surgeons are run off their feet and have to work ridiculous hours. They take forever to get to you, even when urgent. As a result they have lost empathy and make passive aggressive comments. They see the child as a number they need to move through the system as quickly as possible. Itβs the only way to keep an over- burdened system functioning. They will try to send you home, but if your gut tells you otherwise, you have to speak up and give your opinion. Itβs a long trip back and youβll have to start again in the emergency department.
Government underfunding is patently obvious when you are there. The staff do the best they can, but they are under resourced terribly. The fact the recent 2021 Labour budget has directed billions elsewhere is criminal. Nurses should be paid more and doctors should have more colleagues to fill rosters.

β β β β β Have to press 1 star at least otherwise I would have rate -5. I did donation events for you, always give support and you don't look after my child for 3h30min because you are busy ! It's covid pandemic since 2 years !!! Time to get staff. And you are so ridiculous with your gloves etc... and oh you can't leave this room blablabla... but on your days off, are you not going to dine in restaurant or drinks in bar or try some clothes in shops , use same bathroom as many strangers ? !!! Your job is to treat and look after sick people not running away from them !!!

β β β β β Extremely impressed with everyone at Starship. From triage to discharge, the teams were so supportive and kind. The orthopaedic team were careful, thoughtful and thorough and the A&E triage, smooth and made made the visit comfortable for little ones. Especially impressive was getting a lure in place pain free, without trauma. Well done - we're so lucky to have Starship.

β β β β β I was asked to stay outside in the cold, only allowing my wife to accompany my daughter. I stood there for 5 hours watching almost everyone being let in. I asked why they were letting other people in and they told me it was because the doctors allowed them. My wife had to wait for 4 hours for the xray results beacuse apparently they were busy when the room was empty all the time. Pathetic Management.

β β β β β We were here from 6am to 3pm but most of the people here were very friendly and accommodating except for one of the receptionists who gave us the look when we asked for updates on the results. Fair to say if your bubba has a fever + you haven't slept + you've been waiting from 6am to 3pm you should be entitled to ask for an update.

β β β β β The nurse and the doctor we saw were lovely. The children emergency waiting room that we spent 2hrs in was pretty depressing - no pictures, no music, no TV - just a cold sad room. I was asked to keep my 2 year old on one side of the waiting room as there were patients with Covid symptoms on the other side - not an easy task with a toddler in a small open space. The receptionist and staff that did the initial screening outside were a bit grumpy. I expected the staff at children hospital would try to lighten the mood and make the situation easier for both parents and kids but they did the opposite. Covid rules might be putting extra pressure on the staff but same applies to most of us and we still need to do our jobs well . When parents come with their children to ED they are usually under a fair amount of stress/worry so it would be great if the staff support them through this rough time. I was very disappointed with the lack of support we received.
