Stems From Home Childcare Auckland - Mellons Bay

I have worked in Early Childhood Education throughout my career, and I have been privileged enough to have lived in the UK and worked as a nanny, within the homebased childcare sector there. Upon returning to Aotearoa (New Zealand), my whānau and I settled in Howick, East Auckland. I completed my Diploma of Early Childhood Education and have enjoyed being a part of many different childcare environments, including both homebased childcare and day-care.

Homebased childcare is my passion and I personally believe that tamariki should be cared for in small groups and have individual learning opportunities available to them. Building a secure attachment with an experienced and loving, homebased Educator positively supports early brain development for tamariki.

Being cared for in-home also minimises the risk of cross-infection from childhood illnesses. I am so sure that this is the best childcare option available in society today that my own daughter is a prime example of a tamaiti (child) who has received quality, nurturing homebased childcare before beginning primary school.

My role at Stems FROM HOME is to support Educators with their individual programme and education planning for each of their Stems FROM HOME tamariki, as well as any area of tamaiti learning and development, which may need to be explored. In my role as a Director of Stems FROM HOME, I often visit Educators and whānau in their own homes, working individually with each to understand their unique needs to support our tamariki.

I run our local Stems FROM HOME music and movement sessions and Little Explorers for the tamariki, whānau and Educators on our network. I love this time every week, where I get to see the  Educators in action with their Stems FROM HOME tamariki, in an environment other than their own homes. An area that I really enjoy is providing Professional Learning and Development for our Educators on various subjects to help extend their own learning. I believe that we are all lifelong ākonga (learners) and enjoy travelling along my own learning journey with such inspirational people. Early Childhood Education is a way our Stems FROM HOME Educators can make a real difference in the lives of our tamariki.
