My new favourite restaurant in Wellington! The food is fantastic. Nice American flavours and good portion sizes. Service was great and although we had to wait a little while for a table, staff were still helpful and attentive. Even though it was a busy night, they didn’t try to rush us off our table. We ordered ribs and fish tacos and had pie for dessert. The food is well priced and delicious.

Service was polite and friendly, if a little slow to start with. Food was excellent and prompt to arrive. Menu an interesting fusion: Mexican done in New Orleans style. Portion sizes were just right - satisfying but not wastefully large. I loved the spice of the hot wings balanced by fresh cooling celery and soothing creamy sauce. Prices are comfortable. Decor is interesting and cutely shabby-chic. Great music, not too loud. Would happily go again.

Sweet Mother’s Kitchen is something of an institution in Wellington, to the point where you wouldn’t be surprised to see Elijah Wood sampling a beignet or James Cameron enjoying a Po Boy. But it’s not a place I’ve visited with any regularity to judge the standard of the food. Following a leisurely wander around the Bay I decided to rest my feet and enjoy an off peak late brunch. Though the set Big Breakfast looked supremely appetizing I decided to pick a custom selection of breakfast items, including poached eggs, chili beef, potato hash and roast tomatoes. And boy, the portions almost made me regret my choices… there being far more on my plate than I was expecting. Generous homemade hash (a rarity these days), nicely spiced tomatoes and a good side portion of chili beef all hit the spot. And the flavours all complemented the hot sauce I chose to add to the eggs. Next time I’m definitely going to hit that Big Breakfast

100% recommend. Best brunch in a long time, the staff was super nice even when they were slammed during the rush. The food was amazing, special shout-out to the pulled pork!

Went there for there for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast had the eggs bomba, breakfast burrito with SMK spicy sausage and a side of hash. It was delicious and would definitely order the dishes again. For dinner had the jambalaya, jerk chicken, fish tacos and pork belly tacos and curly fries. The jambalaya was delicious however would prefer dark chicken meat over chicken breast. The tacos were also good - crackling on the pork belly wasn't as crunchy as I like it but I am very picky when it comes to crackling. The jerk chicken was disappointing and would not order again - chicken breast was dry (again prefer dark meat) and the beans were basically tasteless. The dessert of banoffee pie and key lime pie was also quite good. Personally, I'm not a fan of banana flavoured caramel in the banoffee pie but overall it was still good.
