★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pretty fascinating place. Tucked away miles from anywhere, one of New Zealand’s largest mining operations pumps iron sands to a buoy 500m or so offshore and passing ships attach to the pipeline, grab the sands and head off all over the world to steel factories.
You can’t see much but the monument is pretty amazing and you can watch a bit of the mines operations from the public toad and the beach there.
An interesting and little known part of Aotearoa.
