★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My first black sand beach and what an incredible experience. It looked as if noone had been there all day. There was no trash or graffiti. There were lots of unique shells and stones to look through and we got to explore undisturbed. Very glad that this was my first black sand experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice beach quite popular among the locals. Good fishing. But no toilets. And quite a drive. Good to go to for a shirt walk after seeing all the other sights in the area

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely stunning. One of those classic black sand beaches on New Zealand’s West Coast. We had the beach to ourselves. Great at low tide, you can walk around the rocks and enjoy the cliffs and unique landscape but don’t let the tide catch you out. Not sure if you can swim here it seems wild and rugged. One of my favourite beaches in New Zealand

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Picturesque spot. Lovely example of the west coast black iron sand. Other than that there's a random selection of permanent houses and holiday homes. Campsite etc.
It's a beach what more to say.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful isolated black sand beach. No surf club so don’t recommend swimming but on incoming tide could swim in estuary. Camping ground and cabins on private land on the hill overlooking the coast - well worth while with all facilities and a view to beat all others - gorgeous
