Tamahunga is Maori for Swedish Moose and you know it's also just a pretty place. Sunshine and rainbows and clouds and cows. Nice hike on way back to Aucklie

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I wasn’t a big fan of this hike. The trail is mostly roots so you have to be very careful walking, and you only get a few good views along the way. If you are into bush hikes, this is probably great for that. Lots of informational signs along the trail (about native plants and animals) which others might enjoy as well. It is a great workout though, as the incline is very steep. If you go a little further than the summit (5 min walk), you reach a viewpoint of the quarry below, which is pretty neat.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice easy drive from Auckland. It's a steady climb up, sometimes steep, sometimes challenging but quite pleasant.
Don't expect any amazing views at the summit. There's trees all around but there is a peek out over the farm land.
Its an easy 90 minutes one way.
