How We Interact With Dogs
We like to see dogs leading a fulfilling life and making new friends. Here at The Barking Lot your dog's personality will shine through because
- We encourage the stuff we like by letting the dogs know.
- We interrupt the stuff we don’t like and redirect them onto something we do like.
- If a dog isn’t happy or is overwhelmed, we will remove them from the situation.
- If a dog is too excited or is overly aroused, we will let them calm down separately.
- We DO NOT use physical corrections.
- If some dogs are not getting along, we will monitor the situation and then make a decision on the best way to solve the issue.
- We do not put our dogs in situations we know they will not do well in.

โ โ โ โ โ The Barking Lot clearly don't know what they're doing. We've sent our schnauzer three times asking each time for a schnauzer cut, and he returned each time with a different random messy cut that in no way resembles a schnauzer cut. It's not hard. If they don't know what a schnauzer cut should look like they could Google it! Each time we didn't get a refund discount or apology. We gave them a generous three strikes. Definitely not going back.

โ โ โ โ โ We took our boy here, and it's a fully concreted area at basement level. They had lights not working so you could hardly see anything (let alone effectively supervise a large pack of dogs) which made me uneasy at first. When we picked him up, he stank SO bad we had to drive home with the windows down (in the middle of winter) and had to bath him ASAP because it was just horrific. I suspect they use hoses to wash away any form of defecation, and because there is limited airflow, it never dries. I'm sure anyone can imagine leaving your pup in a damp area with a whole heap of other dogs how bad that wet dog stink is..... but we only went the once and never again. Do your research and shop around. Staff seemed nice enough and sent photos of how he was going on his first day there (which is a great idea), but apologised as the images were so dark due to lights being out.

โ โ โ โ โ I don't trust many people with my dog - but completely trust The Barking Lot team! Freddie absolutely loves it - he has been attending the daycare for about 18 months now.

โ โ โ โ โ The grooming team at the Barking Lot has made a fabulous job of shaving and clipping Farley the standard poodle. Excellent job for the amount charged and exactly on time . Farley arrived looking like a large Muppet and left looking like an aristocratic Parisienne.
Thanks grooming team. We will be back soon.

โ โ โ โ โ My dog has been coming here since it opened and he still loves it! Weโve been to other doggy daycares in Wellington but this one has been the best in terms of location and price. The staff really know what theyโre doing and so good at letting you know how your dog is doing through their insta-stories and social media. The grooming is great too. We feel like The Barking Lot is a big family and truly feel part of the community.

โ โ โ โ โ Told at counter the cut would take 3 hours. They txt after 2 half hours later to say he was ready.
Difficulty picking him up early. Traffic no parking.
They were going to charge me $30 for 1 hour dog care.

โ โ โ โ โ We had an unhappy grooming experience at The Barking Lot. Our instructions were not followed. Our dog's lower underside got shaved completely bald to the skin, despite us stating never to shave to less than 1cm. His ears have been cut in a lopsided way and bits hacked at the top. His snout is uneven on one side. Nails are hardly shorter at all. We understand that dogs can get matted fur but the quality of the groom was poor. Our dog has been very anxious and depressed since the groom, still one week on.

โ โ โ โ โ New owners, high staff turnover and more concern for numbers of dogs (money) than dog wellbeing. The Barking Lot used to be the best in Wellington, but has gone downhill fast over the past two years. One hundred percent recommend going somewhere else with more experienced staff and better facilities.
