Great visit - you need plenty of time to see this - beautifully presented exhibits (and lots of them) telling the local history, as well as the history of kauri and gum harvesting. We thoroughly enjoyed it. There's a great little cafe across the road, although it was closed when we were there (late afternoon). Recommended,

Awesome museum to visit. This could literally take up half a day with the amount to see inside. Love that they have student discounts as well. Beautiful gift shop which I purchased some earrings. We have loved in Northland for years and we had a fantastic time looking through the museum. Great for locals and tourists!!

Exceptional visit. This is a MUST stop but allow 4 hours if you can. Why? There are photos and real life trees over 3000 yrs in the swamp so 5000 yrs old. Mock ups with real machinery of milling and slabbing HUGE trunks of Kauri. Mock up of living conditions. Finally an amazing display of Kauri furniture, boats and polished Kauri gum. It will captivate all from 5 to 95. Really recommend it & the pies at the Cafe are great!

Must Do. $25 Gets you a 2 day visitors pass. So much to see & do, I would visit over 2 days. Incredible place, too much to take in over 1st visit, need to spend 2days. 3 good Campgrounds close by. My pick would be Pahi.

Impressive, vast and fascinating, even for my teens. ? after 4, half price entrance fee, but you really won't do it justice in an hour.

Simply a MUST SEE museum. I always take my overseas visitors there and they are in awe just like I was. Amazing Kauri Gum displays and life-size saw machines and rooms give an impressive realistic view on what it was in days gone by.
