This is such a beautiful area, Poor Knights Islands are old volcanoes and have high cliffs, arches and caves. People can get to here via ferry from Tutukaka. The ferry takes people to snorkel and dive around the shore line of Poor Knights Islands. When snorkeling I saw many schools of beautifully coloured fish, starfish, seaweed kelp forests of all colours and many other little sea creatures. In the middle of summer the temps of the water was 19-20°c but still needed a wetsuit, the trip there takes 1-2 hours and can be a bumpy ride and the ferries don't take you to walk on the land, just to the water shores. A beautiful mysterious place with an interesting history.

Snorkeling was OK, probably better for diving. The nature is breathtaking and the ride to the island is hairy :)

This place is a must if you're a diver! It is rated among the top 10 sub-tropical water dive sites in the world, and the marine wild life is just amazing! I have experienced so many types of fish, anemones, corals, nudibranch morays, and stingrays! even saw dolphins and Bronze whaler sharks! The Islands are covered with Pohutukawa trees, that flourishing in vivid red during summer time, and you can hear the native NZ birds tweeting all around. Add all the small caverns, tunnels, caves and huge cliff walls around on top - and you got yourself a big underwater celebration. Amazing nature creation! And thanks to Dive! Tutukaka for delivering an awesome experience.
