★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Suter Art Gallery is on my list of top 5 places to visit in Nelson! The staff are very friendly and while we were looking at “Fire & Earth: Contemporary Ceramics from the Top of the South” we were informed about the works and their makers by very knowledgeable volunteers. An excellent cafe spills into the Chinese Garden and there is a short circuit walk with information about the types of trees growing in the garden and some lovely sculptures along the way. The gallery has a well-stocked gift shop and an area for browsing art magazine. It’s free to visit but donations are welcome, and I think, well deserved.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Saw many of what I would describe as masterpieces of NZ painting up-close and personal here. The comparatively small gallery makes it feel like I was getting a private showing of the works of Rita Angus, Toss Woollaston and Bill Hammond.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a find, we did a walking tour of Nelson came across the Suter Art gallery worth viewing really enjoyed seeing artworks of NZ artist. Bonus was the gardens make sure you take a walk and enjoy the gardens with the river running through.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really super space. Welcoming as always with a quiet viewing area and wonderful local artists showing their paintings. Separated from a popular cafe by automatic doors, what forethought! Well done.
