Toi Pōneke Arts Centre is a creative space where the city's arts communities interact, produce innovative works, teach and exhibit in the heart of Wellington.
About Toi Poneke Arts Centre
Why we are here
In 2005, residents of upper Cuba Street approached Wellington City Council for help to keep their artistic community alive in the face of rising rents and displacement by the construction of the Wellington Inner-City Bypass.
Recognising the importance of creative energy to the inner city, the Council created and continues to operate Toi Pōneke to be a hub of arts and creativity.
Toi Pōneke exists to:
connect, support and grow Wellington's creative communities
facilitate artists and creators' learning and career development
provide a friendly, safe space and great facilities
spark experimentation and innovation by bringing artists together.
What you can do here

We also offer mentoring and funding support to artists who approach us with great ideas. Find out more about our previous programmes on support and opportunities.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small space, very basic but it's the art that really matters. Bathroom is pretty clean. Lady who ran reception wasn't at all helpful when I visited.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great space for rehearsals and activities. It's not the fanciest in town but it has what you need and it's a great price. The dance room is lovely.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing place! Perfect for booking a room for a lecture, mater class or any other event you want. Reasonable prices for a central location are very helpful. Staff got a lot of experience and prepared for anything you want to do. You can just walk in and have all the chairs and white boards ready for you. Art on the walls adds to the good vibes about the place. Highly recommend!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had improv workshop. Big rooms, easy to find... But tricky to find right room, but otherwise perfectly fine to do improv theatre in.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Space was small and basic, but the room with the art work felt homely which was nice.
