★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Car park for the summit walk is at south end reserve, Pauanui Beach. There is freedom camping and has toilets.
Following the pathway by toilets to start of walkway, it's all uphill from here with hardly any flat spots to give legs a rest. It's switchbacks the whole way up on a ruggered walkway of tree roots, rocks and some man made steps steep in some places but all the effort is worth the views looking out to the mountains, Tairua, Mt Paku and out to sea.
