β β β β β Thanks for a great week away, camper was clean and everything was ship shape and provided.
Nice friendly staff, and easy pick up, and despite their offices being burnt to the ground while we were away :-( they communicated with us via email with alternative drop off instructions, too easy :-)
Hope all is sorted soon team.

β β β β β My rental with THL dates back to 2017 and they deserved this review all along.
I'd rented a maui self-contained campervan for 8 days rental (pick at queenstown airport and drop at christchurch airport).
The entire trip went fine but during drop-off the staff picked an issue with the vehicle (they claimed the rear bumper was damaged) and withheld my bond of 7500$. They kept lingering the return and when my patience ran out, I took them to Disputes Tribunal (christchurch). After reviewing all evidences, the referee directed THL to immediately return the deposit and also asked to compensate for the losses I incurred due to payment of interest to my credit card company (though a small sum of 150$).
My advice to renters undergoing similar situation, don't succumb to their blackmailing situation (they won't release the bond until we agree to their deduction) and take the matter to disputes tribunal. They are well aware of THL's ill-practices.

β β β β β The only reason I can give one star is there is no option to give zero stars.
There appears to be a trend about this company on here but hey they have had your money so presumably they don't care about bad reviews.
The van we got was not the specification we had ordered. The orientation was perfunctory ( no explanation of the driving controls at all).
The overall state of the van was very shabby - they must be very laid back about dents and scrapes as it was covered in them.
The outside flap we had to keep in place with duct tape as the lock would not stay locked. The fridge was barely cold for the duration of our trip. The bridge Tom Tom, after being good for half the trip , then decided to cease to charge.
A brake light went and I replaced it but it still did work. (No offer of reimbursememt).
Having been assured that a senior member of staff would be on hand to discuss things we were not happy with , because of a public holiday none was on hand
The young staff present seemed totally non-plussed
and unable to offer any redress beyond a derisory rebate of half the Express return fee we had paid.
I will be seeking legal advice about suing Britz and THL.
If you don't want your campervan to take some of the shine off your trip to lovely New Zealand ( full of lovely people) go with another company who value their clientele more

β β β β β Rented the camper from Fti.
Got the camper from Maui in Christchurch 7 days ago. And have rented it for 7 more weeks!!! We also have a baby girl with us!!!
Camper was in a really bad condition - not clean or checked when we got it.
Bathroom door was broken. Had to go back to the shop immediately.
Staffmember was very unfriendly, did not do any introduction. Stopped letting us watch the introduction video. Installed the child seat completely wrong with a security peace missing.
After first night, recognized that fridge was broken. Went back to the branch in Christchurch, car went to the shop again. After the next three nights: gas bottle was empty due to a broken sealing at the bottle. We were loosing gas constantly and could have blown up any second, if a cigarette would have hit us!!! Car was pulling to the left. Profile of left wheel totally gone down. Sealing windows broken, freezing at night. Baby girl got sick. Camper door bent, Moskitos came in. CamperBattery empty after short time. AC stopped working. Awning was blocked and totally mouldy. Couldnβt use it, baby was hit and hurt by pine cone. Sink in kitchen and bath blocked. Toilet leaking blue fluid every time driving. Went to a contractor shop. Mechanic said he canβt fix this all and we should get a new car. Told this to thl. Went back to Christchurch in 3 hours with a baby girl and a broken AC at 35 degrees. When we got to the branch in Christchurch, supervisor was very aggressive and personal, called us liars because they only said they would fix it. Car went to the shop again for 90 minutes. Said they had fixed everything?! Car still pulling to the left.
Have contacted thl via mail and phone several time. Staff in Auckland very nice but not helpful. Staff in Christchurch unbelievable!!! No help from Fti so far!!!!
Still refusing to change the car, even we should have never got such a car in the first place! Ruining our holiday with a baby girl! Paid 20 000 NZD for this because we were told Maui is the best branch and now we are treated totally inhuman. We have 7 more weeks and are totally desperate. We donβt feel save driving this car any further. Have reported the case to the police and to the fire department, in case something happens to us!
Please finally help us!

β β β β β I spent 2 weeks travelling the South Island of New Zealand in a what I booked as a Britz Frontier. On arrival my vehicle turned out to be a Maui camper. We had lots of trouble with the vehicle beginning on day 1 after picking the vehicle up. After we arrived at our camping area the house battery that provides power to all the heating, fridge, lights etc went flat causing the diesel heater to stop, this resulted in a freezing night for me and my 4 children. It was -2 degrees Celsius inside the van in the morning. The following day the heater switch broke, I then used a par of sissors for the next 12 days to operate it..We then had to modify our plans to get to a mechanic to get the problem fixed, he was unable to fix the problem as he had no spare parts, We were then forced to change plans again and pay additional fees for powered sites untill on day 5 we got the house battery replaced.Another day wasted waiting at the mechanics. Next it started to rain, my son awoke to a completely sodden bed and puddles all over the floor, this continued for 2 days. The tap in the sink would not turn off so we had to use the main water pump switch every time we needed water or to flush the toilet.Multiple Emails and phone calls to Britz were not returned. I have rented a Britz Explorer previously and was very happy with the vehical and layout but this Maui camper was horrendous in its set up; very limited storage, 9 large cushions that form the seat back rests had to be stacked up in the front of the vehicle when the beds were in use, like wise the bed cushions were a hindrance during the day. My previous Britz vehicle had plenty of under bed storage, the seat backrests transformed into the bed mattress so no extra cushions all over the place. I could go on and on put you get my point. Britz offered $100 "goodwill" compensation for my troubles, this was totally insignificant for the troubles and wasted time and my trip having to be modified I endured. Would I use Britz/THL again...probably not.

β β β β β I wish I could not give a star to them.
I though that THL - Britz was one of the best tourism company in NZ, but is better look for another one.
Terrible service, got a motorhome that suddenly broke down in the motorway just one and half hour from Auckland branch.
We got ourselves - with two toddlers - abandoned late night in an unknown city without a place to stay. Took 24h to replace another motorhome to us and again the same problem - engine lights on, brake due, service due, etc, etc, etc.
In summary, we got from THL TWO Britz motorhomes in unsafe conditions plus we meet their unfriendly, unhappy and unhelpful team.
We decided to just finish our holiday trip earlier because we lost our time, money and got super stressed. Not recommended at all.

β β β β β Stay clear of them!
Lefthand indicator was not working correctly.
The vehicle had expired Road user kms.
No camping table was supplied for our trip.
The campervan was filthly inside and had not been cleaned, this attracted ants on our trip.
The bedsheets smelled damp and some smelled like cat piss.
The water flush on toilet worked intermittently.
The hot water was not working for the entire trip.
The diesel heating smelled badly of diesel fumes in campervan when used.
Drawers would not lock properly and opened while driving.
Very poor customer service, they did waive road user charges for 153$
They would not accept that we had these issues and were told there was nothing wrong with vehicle on our return.

β β β β β We booked a camper and went there (36 Richard pearse near Auckland Airport) to pick up in the morning. Their response and customer care are so bad that I was waiting around 5 hours to get a proper response. Then I cancelled it and my whole trip ruined because of them.
