We are a new, modern cafe in Lower Hutt. Our friendly baristas use organic Peoples coffee beans and serve with organic milk or oat, coconut or soy milk. We also have brunch and lunch menus featuring different but accessible food, along with some great cabinet food.
About Twenty Eight
Named after our address at 28 Cornwall Street, we are a new, modern cafe in Lower Hutt located on the ground floor of the Professionals building. We provide offerings that are different, delicious and made with great New Zealand ingredients.
We want to be a place that is consistent. We want our regulars to know that each time they come back, they will be met with the same excellent coffee, kai and service. Our vision is to be a place for people to gather, connect, and have great food in an environment where they can relax and feel cared for.
We believe some of the two best things in life are coffee and food, and we’re passionate about both! We use the Tadesse Meskela blend from Peoples coffee which is organic and fairtrade. Through serving People’s coffee we not only directly support the infrastructure of the communities where it is grown, but we also get to serve such tasty coffee. With notes of orange, chocolate and red grapes, the Tadesse Meskela blend is different from your everyday cup of joe.
We take a similar approach with our kai, making sure that we work to use quality New Zealand ingredients. We also make majority of our sauces, relishes and food in-house. This is so we have absolute control of what goes into it, and can offer something different from your standard cafe. Some of our crowd favourite condiments are our rhubarb and peach kasundi, and our creamy garlic and pepper aioli that matches perfectly with our crispy shoestring fries.
We always aim to give everything we do that extra bit of love, and that’s what makes us stand out.

The staff are some of the nicest hospo people I've ever dealt with. Everyone in there is so lovely and good for a friendly chat. It's so refreshing that they're not just there to take your order and move you along, they're keen to engage.

β β β β β We went there twice on Saturdays when we were visiting Lower Hutt. It was lovely modern setting. Free soda water is nice. Service is very friendly. The cooked meals are delicious. Coffee is strong but not bitter. We enjoyed smashed avocado on sourdough, beetroot pickle on sourdough, and spinach omelette. However, the portions are small compared to other cafes. For example, it comes with one piece of sourdough or one egg, unless you ask to add on more.
