Kitchen is well equipped but absolutely tag your food items, even if you just store them for an hour. No sinks in toilets or showers, only in the rooms. Not the cleanest hostel but OK, looks a bit shabby. Rooms to the front suffer a bit from the street. Nice BBQ area in the backyard.

Everything in its place. Very comfortable and calm place. A lot of fridges for the food, nice living room and things are always cleaned up in the kitchen. But the best of all is the people in there, from the reception to the guys who have been there for weeks. Good place :)

I have traveled around the world for one year incl. India, Nepal and Cambodia and have seen a lot. This was the worst place I have been to. No hyperbole. Its what I imagine a crack house is like, very dirty, cold and dark. Light switches didnt work, no wifi, no heating, bathroom like in a jail. Loud music and weed smell from other rooms. We repeatedly heard the manager having aggressive conversations with guests. We paid for three nights but left after the first without a refund. Just happy to be out of there. Unless you have hit rock bottom, it is worth finding an alternative.

After an hour in the building, I was already searching for a new accomodation. It felt more like a halfway house than a hostel. Despite a renovated enternace, the majority of the facilities are very old, cold, poorly lit, and dirty. Bed sheets had stains, rooms were not properly cleaned, light switches didn't work. There was a roach in the tiny shared upstairs bathroom. The wifi also stopped working. It reeked of alcohol and weed from the early evening. They are in the middle of renovating the property, so hopefully things improve (the living room and downstairs bathroom are finished and ok), but I don't feel it is currently suitable for guests. The window in the shower upstairs was not even set into the wall properly (you could see through to the outside around the frame!). Roofing work was being carried out while we stayed, and a worker came in our room to check for a leaking pipe. Management seemed stretched thin. Interactions with guests were often stressed. They are clearly making investments in the property. Hope they can turn things around, because the location is great.

It's cheap so don't expect much. The staff are friendly and clean regularly. The rooms are small, secure, have good storage, windows that can open for ventilation and close to amenities. The building is tired and needs some love. The redeeming feature is downstairs bathroom which is spacious and recently renovated.

The sheets and towels were stained almost more than I could bear, but they smelled and felt clean, and what do you do at that point anyway? The front office was nice enough to give me new towels on request as ours were full of lint. Maybe travel with one of those silk sheet bags? That being said .... the location is great I slept well and the shower was very good. We were in room #4 the private family room with a queen size bed and a bunk bed, we had our own en suite bathroom. The other smaller private rooms seemed like ours, clean but old. The whole hostel including our room is dated and worn. The carpet in our room was clean, there was a new stainless steel shower base we were standing on so I felt better about the bathroom. We had french doors that opened onto a small deck with a couple stairs down to the back communal patio and two windows that opened. There was no table or chair and only the overhead light but there was a dresser and two bed tables to put our stuff on, there were 3 electrical plugs in our room. There is an old communal kitchen, a nothing special small lounge area with sofas crammed in, and a laundry area. The outside patio has 3 large picnic tables and is very pleasant though all afternoon there were guest laundry racks at the far end. The front desk person has been very pleasant, the other guest seem content. The price was good for the location.

Well here I am writing my first ever negative review. I will start by saying I simply cannot understand how this place has a single bit of positive feedback. I’ve been travelling NZ for some time and stayed in some questionable hostels but nothing even near the decrepit condition of this place. There is parking as advertised however it is two cars deep so if you have someone parked behind you when you need to leave you must either call the number they are asked to leave on the dashboard, or if they are gone for long, hope they left their keys at the desk. Whether you are the car parked in or the car constantly needing to move it’s easy to see why this configuration is annoying. As for the place itself, the bedding was disgusting, the bathrooms few, and rooms and kitchen incredibly messy/dirty. The whole place had a very unpleasant odour and dark uncomfortable feel. Looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. We were also over charged $18 and when we politely asked about refund policies were yelled at by the desk manager. I tried twice for a normal conversation about what my options were and both times was talked down to and interrupted to the point that I simply handed over the room key and walked away. Basically, just don’t stay here man it’s a real dump

Called to try to get in touch with someone about accommodation. I was unsure if I had reached the wrong place because of the extremely casual way the woman answered the phone. I asked if I had reached the hostel and she barked β€œwrong number” and hung up. I called back and said I got the number from google maps and I was trying to call about accommodation and asked again if this was the correct hostel. This time she said yes and when I asked why she yelled at me and hung up she just responded with β€œwhatever”
