Always had really easy experience with the doctors here, even over the phone.

The doctors and counselors are great, however I have to give 2 stars because the receptionists at the city campus are honestly the rudest, least professional receptionists I've ever come across. At the start of the pandemic the old white lady receptionist made me (the only asian person in line) sign a sheet stating whether I had been to China, but not any of the other people in line. The young male receptionist has frequently booked me in for appointments I didnt request. The young female receptionist, when I called to make an appointment, laughed as i was speaking and put me on hold suddenly. Literally every receptionist at the city campus is awful, I honestly dont know how they even have jobs

Booking is laborious, often having to listen to the hold music for extended periods. One doctor here is lovely, straight to the point, and empathetic. If this review were for him I'd give it five stars, however my experiences with three other female doctors here was hideous. I have had insomnia for seven years, both my parents have insomnia too, so I know nearly everything about this condition. However, these doctors thought it their duty to lecture me about the addictiveness and overall uselessness of sedative medications. They assumed the caring authoritarian who knows all and knows best voice, talking roundabouts about how I should remember basic sleep hygiene but no matter how long each doctor talked they all still failed to reach any wise or practical conclusion. Basically, they shrunk my dose or flat out denied it, offering no therapeutic alternative. I believe that unless a practical therapy or herbal tea (valerian, passionflower) can be prescribed then doctors should not redact medications that have been helping me get the bare minimum amount of sleep that I would not be getting otherwise. When I am two nights into 1.5 hours interrupted sleep, unable to eat and utterly drained, being told off by a doctor, the person I am relying on to aid me, really makes me feel worthless.

I have literally never left a review in my life but the service at University Health and Counselling has been so poor I felt the need to share. On more than one occasion I have been left with literally no information regarding the situation I found myself. Poor communication, administration and just straight up forgetting to put scripts through. They seem to have no idea what’s happening and overwhelmed 100% of the time. This is not just a personal experience as I have testimonials from multiple friends of similar poor handlings. If you are a student I would recommend finding a third party to help with your health care.

After labeling my request as "urgent" and a "crisis", University of Auckland Counseling Services took two weeks to get back to me. During my belated appointment, my counselor instructed me to tell my close friend's parents about their suicidal thoughts. I had good reason to believe that this would not be a good idea and said as much. The counselor then told me that my friend absolutely will "try something" and that I should to imagine how guilty I will feel if my friend commits suicide. She then went on to try to discredit the crisis helpline, who had given me prompt information that contradicted her advice. Thankfully, everything turned out okay for me and the crisis helpline had been a trustworthy source, but the psychological pain and suffering this appointment caused me for years after is not something I will ever forget.

I've had many problems with their service. An example of a problem I have experienced is when I applied for counselling during a lockdown. I only got a response by text at 9am stating I have an appointment with a counselor at 9:30am the same day which I missed as I was sleeping. I also feel unwelcomed in the reception area, the staff can be rude at times. I will add though, certain doctors are reliable and wanting to help.

Super bad service in many ways. I doubt that they don't see or they just ignore emails. I needed to send 2 time of email or I needed to call them(but usually no one answer) to get some reply me. I got an email from a GP saying that I should have one prescription( on 15 Dec). But I couldn't get that prescription until 5 Jan!!!! This is insane!!! In December, I emailed them and called them, however, no reply.?

Tried to make an appointment with my GP one week before my prescription medication ran out. It took over a week for a slot to become available and I was left without prescription meds for 5 days. I was told that I would need an appointment before they continue to dispense medication that I've been on for over two years now, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. During these 5 days I suffered from withdrawals and the doctors didn't even care to give me a short prescription to cover that 5 day shortfall in which I wouldn't have my medication. Such a poor healthcare service, I would honestly rather pay more for competent healthcare with GPs and nurses who actually care about their patients health and well-being.
