★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Five star food and service. They boast about their hot chocolate and it did not disappoint. The Japanese pancake with pork belly was very satisfying as was the haloumi salad. The waitress was extremely delightful and they had a picture menu on the iPad

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place had strong decor, the kind of ambience at first glance that smells of coolness and pompous, pretentious hipsterism. But it turned out to be mellow as flip...accept for the staff that was short with me...even with my nicest smile and kindest yankee accent. The coffee was delectable, though, even in a takeaway cup. Overall impression; for being cool, it was awfully welcoming and relaxed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Americano was good and I enjoyed my cup in the morning before lunch. We had scrambled egg which was alright but nothing to shout about. I thought it was kind of weird that the waiter left the bill on our table even though we haven't ask to leave yet. Maybe they are waiting for the lunch crowd but I could still see plenty of tables available.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Groovy spot for great espresso, great food (brunch was delicious!), and fantastic service. They have an upstairs area with a separate coffee bar for events, and a ton of seating inside and on the back patio. Good pastry selection, too!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a vege pizza (caramelised onion, mushroom, blue cheese and rocket) and a Japanese pancake with pork belly. Also had a very smoothy. Everything was very tasty. The service was great and very helpful with tips on touring spots. Highly recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A must if you're in Wanaka. Quite possibly the best cafe food I have ever had. I got the bacon egg butty, the cheapest item on the menu - and was utterly blown away. much bigger portion size then I was expecting, and they were very generous with the bacon. Eating here was an absolute delight, and I would highly recommend it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing food! Honestly will go there every time I'm down in Wanaka. I would recommend trying a different meal each time because I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Only recommendation is to put bigger spoonfuls of some of the foods but overall loved it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This review is providing a 2 star rating, Tuesday 15th February, 11.47am, I called the Urban Grind Cafe. I spoke with a nice lady, asking if I may order a Medium mocha, with soy milk, I asked also if I was able to pay inside, because of the vaccine pass, and the lady I spoke to first was nice enough to advise I would need to pay for the order online and they will leave the drink on the table outside.
I called again after 4 minutes and spoke to another lady, I asked if I could order the medium mocha with soy milk please, she asked what my name was and I told her my name, and I can get my partner to pick it up inside as she is able to enter the premise. While on the phone, the lady was basically repeating everything I was saying back to the person next to her, which is rude to basically get a confirmation from the person next to the operator, to make the order.
My partner came back with the drink and I was surprised to pay $6.50 for the drink, it looks like a small cup, and tasted like a cuppucino, my partner tried it and said yes it tastes like a cuppucino.
Not happy with the drink size, or taste, with no chocolate at all from my understanding.
I provide great reviews 80% but this is the lowest scoring coffee in NZ for the price, I understand also its soy milk, and the cup maybe extra but still, please provide some feedback to me otherwise I may contact head office, thank you.
