★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very run down and old. Loud. You hear the neighbors' every step. Price is not that cheap in comparison to be worth it (paid 90nzd per night). Do not recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Never ever come back here. I'm a travel guide and have been traveling around the country a lot. I've never met such approach when after hours I hadn't been able to contact anybody and must stay at another place. If I'm late a hotel duty manager calls me or leaves a key somewhere. When I arrived at Utuhina motel at 9 pm nobody was in and picked up a phone. Even the number for emergency calls written on the office door had one digit erased, so it was hard to understand the correct number. I stayed at another motel and in the morning visited Utuhina again and again nobody was in the office and answered my phone calls. I was waiting for 20 minutes before the duty manager came. She refused to get me money back. Thank you, Utuhina, for unforgettable service!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love the aroha of the staff, they are very welcoming and lovely always checking if you need anything. The rooms are a great size. I think it does need a lil tlc and could do with a makeover and the shower would get a lil clogged up when we would use it. But other than that love this motel 100% and would definitely comeback. Cheers

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We arrived at 3.00 pm and could not book in. Nobody was around anywhere. Lucky for us we had a car at this stage of our holiday, so we were able to drive off with our luggage. Our Unit was the oldest accommodation I have ever stayed in. It had been painted in recent times, but that could not hide the bad state of repair. All appliances were old. Light fittings that did not work. ect The ceiling looked like it was asbestos or some form of cement sheet. It might have been OK in the 1970's, but its 2018 now and some updating is required. Anything that has been fixed is done cheaply and poorly. Its only redeeming feature was it had three bedrooms and seemed to be relatively clean. The door to the toilet had to be wedged shut, as it kept popping open when you used the bathroom. No working lock on the door. My advice is to look elsewhere, unless its so cheap you are willing to put up with its inferior standards.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My friend was here 15 years ago. It is not the place she remembers. The owner needs to put some time in this property. Fix leaky faucets. (They all leaked). Paint inside and out and landscaping needs a day of clean up. Receptionist was efficient and cheery. The sheets were clean and crisp, water in working fridge and beds were ok for the price.
LATER POST: we shortened our stay and owner didn't refund us for one night. Also he charged our credit card 4 weeks before we stayed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The sheets towels and rooms were clean. However the Hot springs were cold. There were 3 bowls and 4 towels for 5 people. The WiFi did not reach our lodge properly. Disappointed as we enjoyed our last stay 15 years ago. The place has slipped considerably. We will not be back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The owners were really helpful. Cool hot water springs in the place. It was quiet when we stayed. Only problem I had was the door handle - was wobbly, damaged and felt insecure even if it was quite safe after testing.
