Amazing campground. The cabins are ex Govt accommodation for the Nasella tussock grubbers of old. It is immaculately kept. Cabins adjoin one another to form a central quad with the dining, kitchen and lounge rooms. A centrepiece of the community which acted as accommodation also for townsfolk during the post quake period. A Cantabrian myself I had never been to Waiau as it is off the beaten track. Situated at the Southern end of the Kaikoura Inland route. Which in itself is an amazing road well woth traveling just for the sake of it. Well worth a special trip just to enjoy the hospitality of this courageous township.

Loved our stay there for two nights. We will go there again as the motel unit was perfect and the town was a quiet friendly place to stay

Waiau Camp so close to Chch for a quick weekend getaway. It is relaxing, facilities are very clean and the grounds tidy. Also dog friendly. Brent and Kara are excellent hosts. Waiau River also is a good spot to fish and boat. This one to put on your list.

Fabulous campground in a lovely small north Canterbury town. Very late check in, with a good map to find my room. Shared bathroom very clean. Highly recommended. Very friendly communication.

What an amazing camp. Crystal clean facilities, quiet. By beautiful walks and so close to shops. Brent is a wonderful ambassador for Waiau and shared some many great things to see and do during our stay. The hard stands with grass area are ideal for caravans and Motohomes, then you have lovely grass areas for camping. Walking distance to public pool for those hot summer days. Come and stay you won't be disappointed

I absolutely love the classic Kiwi motor camps, like the Waiau camp. It feels like stepping back in time to a slower, more fun and relaxed way of life. ? I stayed with my husband, three kids, and puppy in a two-bedroom cabin with shared bathroom, kitchen, and lounge facilities (all very clean and tidy). The staff were friendly and helpful, and posted my shoes back promptly after I left them behind! The camp had a little playground for kids, and it was great that we could have our puppy in the cabin with us. I loved the old-school style lounge and dining room and the kitchen had everything we needed. It was a 3-minute walk to the cute little town centre of Waiau with a lovely playground, and under 10-minute's walk to the Waiau River. I really enjoyed the historical aspect of the camp too.It used to be purpose-built accommodation for mostly Fijian and Tongan workers, brought out for government-funded noxious tussock eradication in the 1950s. An old photo at the camp showed two dapper young workers on folding chairs in front of our unit, number 4. A sign in our cabin said, β€œWhile historical graffiti remains, please don’t add anymore”. Carefully etched in the dark wood were two names, I forget what exactly but something like, β€œDave and Terry, 1956." Highly recommended for a lovely, relaxing family holiday. ?
