★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The rubbish bin hasn't been emptied in ages, the road has ruts on the edge which makes passing other vehical very difficult. Nice views but the trees are getting too high.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a quiet little picnic area on the south shores of Lake Taupo with a nice view over the lake. It's a convenient location 2 minutes off the highway.
Instead of tables, elevated wooden platforms are provided so bring a picnic blanket or beach towel.
The day I was there, the wind was blowing some of the fumes from nearby volcanic vents over the picnic area so the aroma was a bit unpleasant at times.
Previous visitors had also left half-eaten fried chicken on the ground the ground next to the platform which was a bit disgusting. If you're going to throw out food, do it in the bushes.
Road also had very large puddles of standing water, which implies this area has flooding problems after a heavy rain.
As with any area in NZ near water, beware of sandflies.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Although bug spray is a must or they will eat you alive for days after! Beautiful views, birds chirping in the distance and other bird like certainly are a highlight as any other noise is silent.
